seed pod Dendrobium Anosmum Superbum

How long should a seed pod be left on the Dendrobium Anosmum superbum (hono hono) orchid before green flasking?

Dend. seed pod

Hi erosemond
That is a loaded question, alot of things goes into time, weather, rain, etc.
I would start looking at it seriously at about 155 days, look for the swelling to stop, the pod to start turning yellow, brown, and you can gently squeeze the pod, it will give alittle when it's ready--I would wait till it ready to burst and save the seeds, when you trade seed around the world you never deal with green seeds--I have germinated seed 4 years old--open up your hobby you can keep seeds in your refrigerator for years that will increase your hobby
go to members.cox.net/ahicks51/osp and look up the info on seed storage--Norm

thank you Orcacr--long overdue

THANK YOU Orcacr. For a while I looked for a reply to my question and then gave up. I had saved the URL for my question and checked it today-07-04-09. Of course you were exactly right. At about 6 months the orchid seed pod fell off and I lost it. After about 5 months it's time to get serious watching the pod and you have told me exactly what to watch for and how to save it. Again thank you.
