Phal pods--doing well!

Here they are at five days post-pollination:

And today (10 days):

The purple pod is FAT!

It was quite a nice surprise to see how big the purple pod grew after being out of town for a week.

WOW! It seems that you have been bitten by the hybridizer bug! I am at the same stage as you; pollinating every single open flower I have!

I've definitely been bitten. I watch my little babies every day.

Oh noooo!!!!!

Something happened to my purple pod! Either it split early and I missed it or a creature got to it (I have four boys and a couple cats). I'm pretty sure there's no hope of getting any good seed from this.

The pods on the white phal are still growing but I was really hoping to send this one off and it was almost time. As a side note, I've been recovering from ankle surgery for the past two months so it's possible I simply missed the splitting while I was laid up.

I was told a little trick about this. Take a teabag and empty it of tea. Make sure it is clean and dry. Put the teabag around the pod and seal it off. If the pod splits the seeds will not escape the teabag and can still be germinated.

You can actually buy empty teabags (the brand here is T-sac), for people who want loose tealeaves but not a sieve or tea-egg.
Those'll be clean.
