My baby Vanda's in a flask

Yesterday my mom did get home from her holiday to Thailand. She did bring me a flask with Vanda seedlings. There are 5 or 6 little Vanda plants in the flask. It's a pink Vanda. V. Dr. Anek x V. Fuchs Delight. They are still very tiny ofcourse. So now I have Vandeaceos types in different sizes. I'm just glad that there was information with the flask how to take care of it. Now hoping everythings goes fine. Willeke

Hi nice little haul, from looking at them I would leave them in the flasks for a few more months until thye get much bigger.
Their is plenty of agar in the flasks so as long as they are kept warm in good bright light but not direst sunlight they should do well.
Check out this site for some good reading.
Only flask of Vandas I ever deflasked I keep in a small tray for 12 months after deflasking. no medium just laying bare rooted, when the get bigger and new roots from I put them into wooden trays specially built for Vandas

Vanda

Willowbank, our local Vanda guru hopefully will put his expertise in here.

Thanks for the good advice Ron. Yes I'm aware that I can not deflask them yet. It said so in the information that was with the flask. So you leave it barefoooted for 12 months. You just water them, and fertilizer I think. If so how often. Thanks for the information.

i would mist them a few times per day and feed with a seaweed extract until they started to grow good size roots and bigger leaves

Hi Ron, thanks for the information. I will keep it in mind. I have orchidfertilizer with seaweed extract. So that's no problem. But for now they have to stay in the flask.

Interesting flask, looks like it be difficult to break the bottom out of. Do you have a metal rod or something to tap to break the bottom?

Yes it sure is interesting. All little Vanda's. Yes my husband should have someting that I can use to break the bottom out of the flask. Allthough I can wait about 2 months, bacause they are still tiny.

Hi,

Thanks for all the discussion. I also have flasked Blue Vanda. And I think they are dying. Three of the leaves are turning yellow (brownish). Noticed that the inspection date was on September 16. So it is almost 3 months. According to the instruction, I can already take it out. Should I take the little plants out already? Give me some suggestion. Thanks

If they are dying, I, personally, would take them out. Maybe you should start a new thread so others will see and offer suggestions. : )
