Is this past the point of hope?

My Cattleya orchid seed pod isnt doing good I think.

Here is the pod on Wednesday.

The pod today

is it normal, or is it dying? Or is it changing color as it gets bigger? This was my first hand at self pollination.

They stay green usually up until the time they ripen. It's possible that the pod is aborting or that it never actually pollinated to begin with and the ovary is just dying off along with the flower.

to quote my daughter.... Well Poop!!! lol well maybe one of the 3 other pollinated plants will hold to full seed. Either way, not upset too much, just another learning experience.

I kinda figured it would go on and turn yellowish brown and look more like its dying, but today when I looked at it, it has turned red...... Weird!!!

If I had to guess I'd say it's just senescing and you're seeing the red pigments in the tissue instead of chlorophyll.

Well this one did finally drop, so Im now down to 1 cattleya and 1 Phal. I plan on trying to self my Phal. pinlong Cheris since its in bloom now. Expecally since my Phal. sogo lit sunny didnt take. Im not getting too upset about any of it since this is just a way to see if I can do it, and a way I know I could bring a piece of my babies back to the US when I go back.
