Talking Deflasked a month ago :)

I got a flask of Paph Pulsar x Paph Hsinying Redjo at the NSW orchid fair in March, and deflasked it the next day (26/06/2010). Now its been over a month old and all are growing very well. They are grown indoors under artificial lighting and indirect sunlight from the window. Its planted in compots with perlite, chacoal and bark (all mini size). I have a humidity tray underneath them to give them more humidity, so far so good. Its currently coming to winter and felt it would be more safe to grow them indoors. Here are some pics

Compot #1

Compot #2

Compot #3

In total there was 29 flasklings and for under $50, it was worth a try.

Hope they grow well, so i can try a more rarer Paph next time

You can fertilize weakly weekly anytime now. They appear big enough to pot up IF you are ready to tend to lots of tiny pots instead of the bigger compot. If they were mine I would keep them in the compot for a few more months.

Here in Melbourne the time of the year when I like to repot my paphs is in Spring, so around September. So if you wait about 4 more months and repot them in Sept, then they will have been in the compot for 5 months which is good. May I ask who you bought them from?

Kev, I got them from Ching Hua Orchids. They had alot of Paph flasks such as Paph. Pacific Sharmrock 'Magnificent' and Paph. Thunder Cat 'Futune Shock'. But my dad has been looking for the red Maudiae varieties, and we havent deflasked any paphs yet, so we tried something cheap first. Most flasks was way over $100. But the guy was very easy to talk with
