Prosthechea prismatocarpa

Wow, that's a mouthful. But it is a beauty that I have flowering in my front yard. In fact it just finished and now I have seven pods. I think it is pollinated by ants and we have plenty of those.
If anyone is interested in flasking these, I can send you the pods. All I ask for in return is pictures of the grand kids.
I am in Costa Rica but I don't think that it would be hard to send a pod anywhere.

That really is quite a beauty. Makes me wish I had more room for flowers right now. You must have taken care of it very well for it to multiply so nicely for you :P

Boy, if I could just pop that thing and put the seeds in dirt, like I do everything else I try, I'd love to grow some. But in the orchid world it seems much more complicated. But what did they do in the old days? Certainly not the steps taken today. Anybody?

You are right. It is not like growing corn. I think that there is a reason that orchids produce millions of seeds. Chances of reproduction are very slim. In the wild they are nourished by fungus. Why they need to be sterilized for what amounts to invitrio reproduction I do not know. Perhaps someone could explain.
In any case, one member of the forum will be receiving pods from me and sending them on to Meyers Conservatory for flasking. And he has promised to share the booty with fellow geeks.
Habitat for orchids (and just about everything else) is disappearing quickly.
If you want to try flasking on your own here is a very good link:
