| phalaenopsis pod red & dead?
Hello all I am new in this forum. Last month I tried for the first time pollinating a phal orchid using information I got on this great forum. All seemed to be going well but today my well developed pod seemed to be turning red and wilting? Is my pod dead? what has caused this to happen? Since this is my first post I will try to add a picture when Ill get to 5 posts. |

Thank you for the prompt reply, It couldnt be ripe as its only one month since pollination. shouldnt it take like a 120 days for phalaenopsis? I was planning to send it to a flasker that I know here in Israel.

no it has not it just went red, the front part of the pod looks white and dry (where the petals are) I have a feeling that its dead its deteriorating really fast. however the mother plant is looking good with a new root and a new leaf and 12 nice big white flowers

I think it may be on its' way to capsule heaven. I'm not sure, but the phal capsule that I had, was much bigger and older when it was ripe. You can check the seed inside and see what color they are. Try again! It's fun!

it's one of the most common causes of seedpod loss. another common cause is incompatibility between the 2 parents, but I don't think that's the case here. |
