New project

I think I found a winner! This orchid has been hard to breed for me. I've tried numerous species and hybrids to use from hobbyists from here and on Facebook and finally.... I think one has took. It has been a week, but this is the only flower not to drop off post pollination and the column has been thickening. Meet Ctna Mighty Titan "Parkside" AM/AOS x Cattleya Aztec 'Orchid Hurst' AM/AOS. Hoping to improve flower color & size while maintaining pod parents biannual blooming cycle.

This should go over better then my first hybrid using Guaranthe aurantiaca as the pod parent. Check out step by step for the details. It took over 300 days before that pod was ready to dehysc.

Wow. I think it is bad enough buying seedlings, especially the ones just out of flask. How long do you expect it to be from pod to blooming?

3-5 years depending on how vigorous they are and I don't neglect them.

That isn't too long of a wait. I look forward to seeing the results. I always like to see what genetics are expressed.

New update, the pod is yellowing and I think its preparing to dehisc already. Heres a link for average times.

Being my first hybrid took well over 300 days to mature, and the sight of the pod maturing had me concerned, I contacted a nursery who specializes in this line of orchids. He said "I have seen pods starting to mature in 60 to 75 days. That is mostly species to species. Crossing to hybrids should be twice that. Also depends if you want dry or green pods."

It dehisc'd today. Will send to the lab next week and reserve some seed to try flashing myself.
