Where to buy clear plastic pots locally?

Hi,

Where do you folks buy your clear plastic pots locally? I just need 1 for my phal but would rather not pay $10 shipping for a $1 pot. I'm in the Bay Area near san francisco.

Thanks

The Home Depot near me had a few the last time I was in there. They only had a couple of sizes. They had the clear plastic saucers for other sizes so maybe they were just out of the other sizes of pots.

Go visit an orchid grower--I think there is one in Pacifica, there are a couple in Morgan Hill further south, one in Half Moon Bay--they will probably have them. I got some at Napa Valley Orchids, which is kind of far for you.

How can it cost 10.00 to ship a plastic pot? I've got just a few I offered to someone recently but no reply. If you want them I'll send them to you. Just PM me.

I order all of mine from a source on ebay. She is cheap and fast with them and has all sizes. Tara

Or you can use one from the deli and just put two holes about an inch up from the bottom if you want it for s/h.

Often local orchid guilds and clubs sell that kind of specialty orchid supplys.

I use the ‘Deli’ containers in two sizes that I buy at the 99 cents shops (where I live, they sell 4 for 99 cents). I have also gone into a local florist shop (more than once) and asked if they had any clear pots they were going to throw away – which they give me.

In the case that no clear pots are available or just too expensive for a piece of plastic, you can always count on the kitchen department in any store. There are LOTS of containers in every shape and size imaginable you only need to know what you have in mind. As for the holes, get a soldering iron, they are cheap!, you can even get both at a dollar store! After you get this combination working, you'll probably never need regular plastic pots again. I promise you, you'll get better with practice, just mark the spots where the holes are going to be with a pencil. Simetrical (just to make it look better) and just the tip of the iron, to get the wire through for hanging, and all the bigger holes to get good drainage and ventilation

Go to an orchid show sometime. They cost a quarter and have all different sizes. The bigger ones may be 35 cents.

I also use a soldering iron to make holes in the plastic. Be careful NOT to breath the smoke from the burning plastic - it is VERY toxic.

Yes, the deli containers are a good idea. So is the soldering iron.

I believe Calwest sells them, and they're on the west coast.
