ok, now what do I do?

I took on the task of repotting my Psychopsis today, well the roots are so wound around the old mix I can hardly remove any of it. I've heard that this orchid doesn't like the roots to be disturbed, so I am afraid to unwind the roots. But then I don't want the old mix start to rot and cause problems later on. Any opinions on what I should do?

I just pulled a catt out of its way-too-small pot and soaked the roots for half an hour. That softened everything up and I was able to gently move the roots around and pull out the little bit of rock and bark that I could find.

Norris, I just repotted my Psychopsis not long ago. If you can, just use a sprayer and gently remove what you can, but don't force it. If any medium sticks or stays, just leave it. When you repot, be sure to to make the medium snug again.

Mine didn't stall one bit, and after I repotted that's when it put out that new spike for me.

I'm always afraid to repot. Like I'm ringing the death knell. Especially if the plant is seemingly healthy but potbound. But I'm trying to do better at it and have several that need it I think.

Thanks for the reply's. I think I did ok, I had soaked it real good, then cut away the plastic pot and picked as much old medium as I could. It looks good in it's new home that's for sure
Imartiny, I know how you feel! especially when I read things like "disturb the roots as little as possible" or "get as much of the old medium out as possible" or " repot when new growth starts" I guess we just got to go to it and hope for the best
