Phal type dend winter care when spiking

So I read that my phal type Dend should not have a lot of water during the winter, so I cut down on the amount of water I'm giving them. Now one of them has started spking, do I still withhould some water? What about the one that hasn't started spiking? Does that mean I didn't withhould enough water from it? (Note: Its the one in my avatar).

I realize that its difficult to guess without specifics, but these are no-name Dends I got when I first started growing orchids. The spike on the one Dend makes my second ever spike on my own but I want to try and do things correctly with it.

I'm in mid-Florida, we just had a spot of cold weather, that's when I noticed the spike as I moved the orchids around a little, its normal for us to have the occaisional low into the 40s and maybe even 30s until end of Feb with most of the time being a low in the mid to upper 60s. My Cathy Beck gave me 3 blooms a month ago and they are still lasting fine, bless her little heart.

Hmmm I dont really think that witholding water makes them spike. Mine are all spiking and I did not with hold any water. I think it could be the temperature and the time of year that they spike. Tara

Phal type dens don't need water withheld in winter. They like to almost, but not quite, dry out. However, they may need to be watered a little less often due to the lower light. But you're in Florida and that probably doesn't apply.
