vanda to bloom?

among my orchids is one plant that refuses to bloom - V."Roberts Delight"
it receives the same treatment as my other vandas(blue coerulea hybrids) which
grow well and flower regularly;
september-may indoors south window with artificial light added(metal halide)
june-august outdoors (45-90F)
this summer was very warm and sunny - the leaves got quite yellowish and red-tipped - so i assume they did get enough light
the blue plants grow their roots into their baskets whereas this plant only grows aerial roots
the plant is 10yrs old, big(2feet), has lots of (aerial)roots and leaves all along its length.
it looks good even without flowers, but eventually one grows tired of waiting..
any ideas?

I do not have much to say that is comforting except everyone has a story like this and it ends by giving it away and it blooms non-stop for the new owner.

I had a Clivia that bloomed for its previous owner and not for me for over 6 years. When I moved to Florida I forgot to take it out of the box for three months and it was in bud when I took it out.

Change its care to anything different and see if the change helps. If good care is doing nothing for you try anything. Or trade it to a friend for something in bud.

I suppose I dont have anything to lose so lets see what a drought does
I guess Im a bit shy with drastic experimenting as the plants are difficult and very expensive to come by here in Finland

Another experiment, if the plant survives your first one, would be to grow the plant continually in moderately low light. There are Vandas that grow in lower light and cooler conditions. This type of experimenting is less likely to kill your plant, and maybe should be tried first. Cynthia

that does sound a lot less hazardeous so I better try that first
Ive also wondered if those overlong summer days (up to 20hrs of sun) might confuse this plant - but then this seems unlikely as others do fine under same conditions
kiitos

Well, Vandas can be individuals. Even one of the 2 major ancesters of V. Robert's Delight, Vanda coerulea has high altitude populations and low altitude populations, and the lower altitude populations are the easier ones to grow. I was doing a little research on you problem Vanda and came across the comment that the two populations of V. coerulea have been recently interbred to produce easier plants to grow. So you just never know by name and parentage what will be the requirements of a plant. Cynthia
