all leaves are turning yellow

All my orchids (Phals, Oncid, Phaps, CymS) were outside before I took them inside. I noticed that the some leaves on many of them are turning yellow. But they appear as streaks and run the length of the leaf. A local nursery told me that it is from the lack of the abundunce of light due to the winter. Are these plants doomed or will they recover once the days become longer? Mostly occurring on the cyms, which are big and have new stalks coming up. But one Phal is completely yellow - almost overnight. Watered 2 days ago and now this. Is all the yellowing due to the light or watering?

A phal will not turn yellow in short order from lack of light. One of the tricks of the trade to encourage plant keikis when using keiki paste on a spike is to put it in a closet for two weeks with NO light. I've actually done this and the plant didn't change in any way over those two weeks. Incidentally - no keiki either!

Quickly yellowing leaves would indicate something significantly different than your normal culture - did you spray them with anything? Did you potentially fertilize them with anything different? Were they exposed to a really cold evening before you brought them in. Watered late at night and sprayed - and not allowed to dry off before temperatures dropped, etc. Some sort of "happening" that has not been a part of their normal routine?????

the orchids have been inside since mid-october and the leaves ahave been turning yellow in the past few weeks. With the cyms, the yellowing is in steaks along the length of the leaf. Could it be due to the decrease in daylight? The phal just turned yellow over the last 2-3 days. The roots are still green -- byut I did spray with alcohol and water for mealy bugs on Friday. Other than that a complete mystery.

yellowing that quickly in a phal usually indicates crown or stem rot--isolate the plant/s immediately. are there any soft brown or black areas on the stem?

no stem just leaves. forgot to mention that the top leaf is halfway attached, got it this way from the nursery. The flower stem dried up (which I cut about a week and a half ago). Assuming crown rot, what are the imediate short term options? Should I remove the plant from the pot? Can it recover since the roots appear okay?

i submerge mine in hydrogen peroxide if they have rot; repot; keep pouring H2O2 over them weekly. i've had a few recover for short periods but they just get it again.
