When new plants arrive...

I have 6 orchids coming from FL in the next 48 hrs (1 Phal, 2 Paphs, 1 Encyclia Cindy, one NOID oncidium, and a Twinkle). It is cold as heck here in NY State now and I am wondering--what should I do when the plants arrive since they have been traveling for a few days? After I unpack them, do I water them, warm them, keep them in bright light, talk to them or what This is my first UPS shipment of orchids and I don't know if they should get some sort of special care.

leave them in the pack for a couple hours, to allow it to slowly come to room temperature. then, unpack very carefully. if the potting media is dry, water them. it's best to keep them seperate from your other orchids for a couple weeks, in case any signs of pests or disease show up. try to place them in an area with conditions similar to your growing area. do not attempt to warm them up quickly, or expose them to excessive light. you can talk to them if you want, but i'm not sure it will help. and, of course, post pictures of any that happen to be in bloom.

Talking to them and saying soothing things will help. Then, after your discharge from the farm, you can enjoy them. LOL

Talking to them can't hurt. So why not? Just don't tell anyone you do it. That'll keep you out of the funny farm. LOL!!!
