| My Sun Burned Phaleonopsis Hi everyone, So my boyfriend got me an orchid for my dorm because he spotted that I had them basically lining my room at home. This room has terrible lighting, but since I live in Cali, the temp is great. The only problem is that I have to take it out on the deck for the best hours of sunlight and put it into a slightly shady/cool place. A few days ago I forgot to take it out and asked my roommate to take care of it for me as she was going, she did... only I found it a few hours later in full california sun and the the leaves in terrible condition. I don't have a camera to post pics with at the moment, but two of the three are basically dried out--the color is there, but there is no juice left and they are completely floppy. The third is bleached and a little soft, but not dried out. There is also a little area close to the stock where the sun didn't hit, and thats just like the leaf was before the incident. I was thinking of trimming off the dried off parts because they are useless now. Oh, so far the flowers and buds look fine, nothing unusual about them, and I checked when I got it and the roots are super happy looking. What should I do to save this orchid? It really means a lot to me and I would love to keep it flowering. Thanks so much! |

| I agree with kid-A. A picture would help. Cutting off burned areas can be done. I would brush the cut part with cinnamon (powder) You don't have a window in your dorm? It sounds like a lot of work to be moving it all the time. Here's a link for a culture sheet. AOS | Phalaenopsis Good luck with it!

| Here, here, a picture would definitely help. You could also look at the phaleanopsis care given on the following link. Orchid Care for Phalenonopis & Paphiopedilum Orchids

| I don't bother to cut off burned leaves. They don't look very nice, but they also don't hurt the plant, either. I think they still contribute something, even though they don't look like they do. |
