Thanks for the pics .Those Cattleya picures are so beautiful. How much time it would take for a Cattleya to bloom after repotting.

Very pretty. What else do you grow? Your yard from a distance looks very nice.

I have only been growing for a year and a half, so perhaps someone with more experience can answer your question. I spend quite a bit of time at the Santa Barbara Orchid Estate. They have guided me towards "tempature tolerant" orchids, mostly Lalieas and Catts. My orchids are outside year round as they can tolerate down to 30 and as warm as 100 degrees . I have them in wooden baskets..and love to watch the roots crawl all over the place.

Many are in spike now...will send more pics as the flowers open.

Yes same here Patti, things are cooling down very quickly here in the UK.
TOday is lovely though, bright and crisp. Makes a change from all the rain.

Karen your plants are beautiful. Well done and thank you for sharing.

About how cold does Santa Barbara get during the winter? I just got a Vanda myself and was wondering how low it can tolerate. I'm just north of San Francisco.

It would depend on the catt. Some will bloom more frequently (couple times a year) while others will bloom on a yearly basis.

Your bloom time will be dependent on the plants flowering cycle rather than when the repotting is done. With that said...most agree that repotting is best done after the orchid is done blooming and beginning to push out new growth (roots and top).

Hope that helps.

I am here on the coast we can go as low as freezing several times a year in the pre dawn hours during the winter...but as soon as the sun comes up it warms up again. This particular Vanda is tempature tolerant, I am not sure that they all are. I have my orchids on a structure near the house and under trees so they are not fully exposed.

Very beautiful!

My vandas have been very slow to bloom these days. Yours are gorgeous!

Mine are outside all year too.
