My Little Gastrochilus japonicus

Hi all!

My little Gastrochilus japonicus that I purchased from oakhill is now blooming.. I thought I'd put a couple quick shots up to show it off.. And believe it or not. It has a slight scent of spice coming from the flowers..

Hi Katrina!

It may grow more leaves and grow upwards.. But it won't get any larger than that.. It's typically a tiny orchid.. I just find it amazing how small they come to.. lol It's just adorable..

Perfect! I think I'll have to add that little guy to my list. I've recently (Thanks Neo thread!) developed an interest in the ultra- minis. Besides...there's always room for a ultra- mini. Right? LOL!

Yeah, it's nice sharing our orchids w/others who are just as excited as we are. My husband thinks they're cute/pretty/whatever but he just doesn't have the same enthusiasm as a fellow addict.

Let me be the millionth to say how cute! Such complex blooms for such a small plant! I've never heard of that one (nothing new there) so I'm going to have to look it up to see how hard it is to grow ... I might have room next to the neos and sedirea ... Great growing!

Yep.. It's a must have! I believe it was 16.00 or 18.00 over at Oakhill.. If you're lucky, and order while they're in blooming season.. They'll probably send you one in spike.. I had gotten me and my sister one for her birthday.. Ours wasn't blooming when we got it, but hers is blooming to now along with mine.. lol The spice smell in the morning it gives off is just really nice.. I love fragrant orchids.. My fav!

We are doing this one as a project plant on another forum. I just got mine Friday!!! Lots of great roots and an old spike. Now I can't wait for the spicey smell.

*covets* So pretty! I have to find myself a non-nursery orchid place around here. I'm addicted, and I simply love the look of the plants themselves without flowers.

Will do guys.. Will be doing it soon.. Just hang in there.. thanks!

And yes, BluPeaches.. It likes a lot of light. But not direct where the sun can burn its leaves. full indirect light.. (If that makes sense) And depending on how much of the roots are showing.. Water twice a week. If the roots are covered more with orchid mix/mulch. Then a thorough watering once a week.. Hope this helps!

Japonicus

Ok guys.. It's been a few months.. And this is exactly what I was waiting for. And that's for this baby to bloom.. What better time to show off my Japonicus! When I first posted it was 2008.. So we're talking a good three years ago.. And much has happened since.. I just took these today! It has approximately 4 spikes in total! And 3 of which are now blooming and one is in the midst of maturing!
Enjoy!

Isn't it though? It has grown 2 new plants on it (kikis) since 2008 and absolutely loves that pot that I put it in. I had saved it from like 15 or more years ago. A miniature African violet used to be in it. And I had my father drill a hole in the bottom of it and it's an awesome orchid pot now! lol

Thanks for all your complements btw!

Reminds me of my haraella as well. This was on my list when I was looking into a mini but the haraella won out and i have definitely fallen head over heels. Might have to add this one soon so I can just pine over the two of them.
