Talking New Masdevallia!

Here is a picture of my new Masdie herradurae. It is a pretty small Masdie (smaller than I thought, but I still love it ) and it was blooming! It has two very cute little dark red flowers. New growth and new roots too!

Very nice plant! I put it next to my other Masdies with the fan and it looks very happy.

April, that's a neat colored one there. It looks small but cute. I think Masdies like you. I'm trying and so far so good with the three I have left. I think one may have a spike. I'll post on another thread and you can guess. Hee! Hee!

My colossus x bonplandi is in spike, I looked again and I am 90% sure, but it is really really tiny!

My Celtic Frost is putting up so much new growth maybe one of those will spike!

I only have three and I think that is enough for now!

I know. I'm a little anxious with them since I killed the Tinker Belles so fast. I think that was a record for me. Fastest orchid kill to date. LOL!!!

Nice! Do the blooms "grow" once they're open? I have 2 Masdies, but have never brought them to bloom. I love the coloring in your newest baby!

Patti
I have 3 pics that will show you masdie flower spikes
depending on the species or hybrid the length of the Spike will vary from species and hybrid then the buds will start to swell and open.

I hope this helps you

Fred those are neat. Can you say about how long from first sign of spike to actual bloom? I hop they don't take as long as Paphs.

Patti, have they grown new leaves? Looks like the spikes come from new leaves only. Is that right? Fred? Anyone?

newly formed leaves means flower spikes given the right culture and conditions
just a little tip try not to get any water on the flower spike
here is a pic of a masdie flower spike I had to help a few months back

nope solay they don't take as long as a Phal spike but its hard to say just how long a spike will take when you first see the spike to flowering as each species and hybrid is different.

but what you will also need is patience
