Smile Dendrobium anosmum (superbum) white update

Hello, everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just an update on my dendrobium....
I'm so happy, those little buds are really big now and started opening today!!!!!!!! I find it funny that the flowers seem to open all at the same time...
They're still a little green, but suppose they'll get white soon...
The first pic is from aprox. one week ago and the others are from today...
Believe it or not, it is already possible to feel a sweet fragrance!!!!!!
I'll be posting new photos as it goes....
Thanks guys!!!!!!

Nothing like nice fat buds to get the orchid pulse racing! Is this the same plant as in the other thread?

Ohhh, you are sooo lucky. I keep trying to find one of these in spike or at least blooming size for sale, but I don't ever have any luck. I like both the white and the purple, but I think I would prefer the purple just because I like purple dendrobiums.

Orchidementia, I'm also in love with them, they grow rapidly and even without flowers they look really nice and green....This species has big hangins canes, I hope when it is full, it'll look a little like a fern, hehehehe....

Pitik101, I can already smell the sweet fragrance, but I think it will be stronger after flowers mature...

Missann, I took like almost 2 years to find this white variety, I also think that the purple must be amazing, I once saw a pic on internet of a pink superbum that looked like a cascade!!!!!!!!! keep searching yours, it will worth it....

Evagetry, My plant is actually young, didn't expect flowers this year, I bought it in early june, still with the leaves on...This cane that is blooming is only 50 cm long!...
Hope they bloom every year!!!!!!!!!

one good growth habit of a Dend anosmum (true to all its variety) is that when it starts blooming...it will continue to do so on a yearly basis, unless you divide the plant. Another thing is that as it matures, it throws more and more canes year after year. and its really happy...it gives longer and longer canes. The alba and semi alba have lesser number of flowers than the pink ones. Most that I got from an alba is 14 flowers in 1 cane.

Wow, those are some big buds. I can't wait to see the flowers. Can anyone tell me if the lavendar Dendrobium anosmum (superbum) is as fragrant as the white ones? I am thinking of buying one and can only find the lavendar one.

I guess it will be a real show Stopper when it has more canes...
The third pic I tried to show the lip a little closer, looks a little "hairy", hehehe
Hope you all like it, like I do
Actually, I loooooooove it.....
Everytime I walk through the livingroom I give it a little ...
See ya!!!!!!!!!

Renata that is absolutely breathtaking. I love white flowers anyway. Thanks for sharing the pictures. After I read all these posts yesterday about how fragrant these plants are and saw how pretty they are I went and bought myself a lavender anosmum yesterday. I hope mine blooms someday and looks as pretty as yours even though it is not white.

pitik101: I took your advice and went ahead and bought one yesterday. Now all I have to do is keep it alive. This is my very first Dendrobium. Thanks for the push.

missann: I bought my plant at Oak Hill Gardens yesterday. They only have the lavender one but in all sizes. Look on their website.

Plantlovr,
congrats on your new chid!!!! Nothing like a new plant to make our day happier!!!!!!!!! I'm sure you'll do a good job and they'll bloom beautifully....Also i think yours will be more fragrant, since Pitik said the lilac ones have a stronger scent!!! Maybe you can post a pic of it? Did you buy a little one or an adult?
Good luck, send more news.....!!

The lilac one has an incredibly strong scent. When mine is in bloom I put it in the front porch and my WHOLE HOUSE receives the aroma. It's heavenly!
Last year the canes grew to 5 feet and they all bloomed!!!
If you take good care of them they WILL reward you.

Almost forgot (this sounds gross) but if you put some really dry horse manure in the pot during its active growth cycle, the plant will grow better.

Renata, I just bought a small plant because I can't afford the bigger ones. So I will have to wait to see my beautiful flowers and get that wonderful aroma. I don't have a camera to post pictures. I am sorry. They told me at Oak Hill that it might bloom for me next year. I can only hope. I will try to get a camera by then to post some pictures when it becomes a beautiful sight to behold.
