| Is this normal for a Phal? Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum, just joined today, and am really enjoying all the threads, and finding it really interesting. I'm a newbie....so I need lots of help! I received a beautifull Phal orchid in February this year. At that stage it was in full bloom, with two flower stalks, 10 flowers on each. At the end of April the flowers started wilting, and dying, as I suppose they should, but as they started wilting and dying, I noticed that where I thought the stem as such had stopped growing, it was growing longer, producing more flower buds. The result is, that it is now almost the end of July, and my orchid has not stopped flowering. A third stem has originated at the base between the 5th and 7th leaf, and should be flowering in September I suspect. Will the above-mentioned affect the flowers on the third stem?? Is there something wrong with my Phal? Please help! Thank you! |

| Hi, Trisha. I agree with Norris-- sounds like you got a beautiful, vigorous phal that loves it at your house. All phals don't bloom like the one you describe, but some extra vigorous, extra-bloomingul ones do. Does your phal have a name tag? I bet people would like to know what it is, as it may be one of the never-stop-blooming ones. I sure would. |

| Welcome to the forum Trisha27!!! Lucky, Lucky You!!! Some Phals seem to grow all the time, but only if they love you and your home. Usually the subsequent blooms are not as numerous as the original spike, but lovely none the less. Pictures please - we would love to admire your orchid parenting skills!

| Funny story Thanx everyone for the replies! Funny story, my boyfriend bought me that orchid for Valentines Day, and he literally stormed into the florist(knowing nothing about orchids...and still not knowing anything...), and chose it within 5 seconds...hehehe... He now prides himself in being an expert beautifull orchid finder..Haha! About the label, I remember trying to figure out what was written on the tag, but it didn't seem like normal orchid lingo. I have kept it, and will post what it says. I will also post a pic over the weekend! |

| Hi Trisha, Welcome! As the others have said, most phals do not bloom as wonderfully as yours has. What a suprise that I would love to see from one of my phals...you think its out of bloom and then all of a sudden it spikes again and even better!! Thats awesome! What Ive noticed is that phals are much like people, they are all very different in their own way. What one phal likes the other might not like. A lot of people here mention how some of their phals thrive in a moss medium and others do bad in it. It just all depends. Youve got a lucky one! Keep up whatever you are doing and just think, each year that plant is going to bloom its but off. lol. would Love to see pictures of this blooming star!
