| Most Cyms. bloom in late fall through spring but I have some that will bloom in summer. I guess the temperature can vary the blooming times a little. As for the roots, cut off all soft and dark roots. Those are dead. You can even cut a little of the good roots off if it's needed to fit in the pot. Sometimes the roots are way to much and long to fit in a proper sized pot. I use shredded redwood bark (used for mulch) from home depot. It last a long time and hold plenty of moisture and the roots seem to like it more. Also very cheap. I also use regular plain fir bark. Both work fine and I'll add a sprinkle of a time release fertilizer like Oscomote (spelling???). Don't forget to post a pic. when the one in spike blooms.
