New Neo pics 7/11/08

There's a lot of "crap" going on in my life, so this little guy has really been a bright spot lately.

Hi Patti, I just hope my Neo will give me the same lift that you have had. I often talk to it, " Do you think it is time for a spike? " No reply. Patience, patience. Nice pics, Patti.

I'm sorry about the crap - too bad you can't use it as fertilizer for the orchids. Your neo is beautiful, and I bet it smells even better (if possible).

Thanks, all of you...I feel better already. I know that "this too, shall pass"- But so do kidney stones, and they're not pleasant, either! I'm grateful that I have a wonderful husband and 3 great children. (lots of really nice orchids, and geek-friends, too!) I need to count my blessings for the good things in my life.

Joe is right, Patti, and you know it! Your orchids are a source of joy and relief when things get tough. And Jenny is right,too--What are you always telling us?
The answer is patience! You have to have the lows to get to the highs End of sermon. Just hold on...and keep talking to your friends

The other thing is that I am so glad to see your succes in a regular pot and without a mound of sphag. Mine is just in coconut fiber and in the same clay pot it came from the grower in. And I know it's not traditional, but I found this tealight holder...I think it's got kind of an oriental flare--what do you think?

I love the holder! Your Neo looks great! Very happy! They don't always have to be in the mound.

Does yours have a spike?

Patti -- Oh, those Neo blooms. I can smell them from here! As for the crap, everyone else said I wanted to say. So I'll just give you a nice big .

Pat -- Love the tealight holder! I, too, use/buy tealight or votive candle holders for my little 'chids. Last week, I found a good deal for a set of 3 candle stands. My favorite Neos will sit on them.

I LOVE the tea light holder. I got one for down the road. My other 2 Neo's are potted in the mound, but they came that way. I'm not crazy about it either. The sphag is breaking down and it just looks strange. I know it's traditional, but I don't really care for it. I'll be re-potting in "normal" pots eventually. I like unusual pots, but not a big fan of sphag.!

Patti, Potting in regular mix may not be traditional, but it's a lot better than a dead neo (I don't do well with sphag.)

Arlene-Even the man at the checkout counter commented that he really liked the "pot" And with the cut-outs on the side, it is great for air curculation!

April, No spike yet, but if you hold the plant up to the light, you can see a shadow-something starting to grow inside one of the bigger leaves...Spike or new fan, I'll be happy

Kortney, Glad you like the tealight holder! You would get along well with my son (don't worry--he has a girlfriend,LOL). He is a senior at O.U. majoring in linguistics with a minor in Japanese. He just got back from a six month stay at Chubu University (Closest "big city" is Nagoya)so he is very fluent in writing and reading the language. And he is sooooo into anime it's unreal (you should have seen the BRIGHT orange hair he had for one of his J-Con events). Anyway, he translated your signature line for me...

My daughters are both anime fanatics. Have been for years. They do J-Cons, etc. They have their own world, don't they? They are both going into their Junior year in college. They love anything Japanese, but non of my 3 children got bitten by the gardening bug. They kind of look at my plants and say "nice.." that's about it! They find it funny that I'm so into plants. I picked up the love from my mom and grandmother. It stopped with me. Oh, well....

It's very strange,Patti--My son is like your daughters: into anime big time and living in his own world (probably better than ours). He spent six months in Japan, loved it and wants to return. He is a senior in college and is talking about going to grad school for--this makes no sense after the whole Japanese thing--psychology!! Go figure

My oldest daughter is also into anime. Every year, for the last few years, she and her friends attend the Fanime-con in San Jose. She's been wanting to visit Japan, but can't afford it at this time. So I know what you mean! LOL

Patti -- Don't worry. There's still hope. I wasn't into gardening until a few years ago. So your daughters might just pick it up later in life.

Anime is so popular. My daughter is totally into it, she loves anything Japanese, when I get a new Neo I have her help me pronounce the name.

My daughter has a mental disability and Anime has really helped her to "come out of her shell".
She has lots of books (she tells me those are Manga) and will talk to anyone about Anime or Japan.

My husband likes the look of the garden and will help me plant but doesn't really care about the inside plants, just if they take up too much room!!!

I love anime and manga too! I started learning Japanese a while back so I can go there when my brother goes for part of his degree. I am hoping to continue school after my business degree and go for a major in Japanese. I just started also learning some of the Hiragana too. I usually have bright red hair but let it go for the last six months.
