New growth on Paph. sanderianum (FINALLY)

My Paphiopedilum sanderianum finally is getting new growth. This isn't very exciting to most, but "Sandie" has been sitting there looking cute for months. When I saw the new growth the other day, I was as excited as I had been for my Neo spike!

Looks like a new leaf and that's a good thing. Yay!!! Good growing.

The leaves seem very pale. Is that how Paphs. should look? Curious cause all mine are darker greens. Maybe mine need more light?

Paphs have so many different kinds of leaves! This picture is kind of washed out. It isn't that light. It is lighter than most of my Paphs, though. This is one that's solid green. It's a baby, also. It's my 3rd most expensive plant, so I want it to do well! I dream about this one all the time.

That means the blooms should be gorgeous. I lost track of how much I paid for what. Maybe I should just in case I croak and my husband wants to sell off my orchid collection. LOL!!!
I also have 3 seedlings with solid leaves too and can't wait for it to bloom one day. I think they all have the long twisty sepals. I love those.

Most of mine I don't remember what I paid for them. Just the top 3- My wallet remembers!!! Paph. sanderianum has had plants with petals 36 + inches long. They are awesome!

Excellent Patti! These guys aren't going to break any speed records for fast growing so I understand your excitement! So how many leaves and how big is the leaf span on this growth so far?

The plant had 4 leaves when I got it in March. Each leaf except the top one was about 5 inches. Since then, the bottom most leaf that was a little smaller, yellowed and fell off. The top leaf and the other 2 continued to grow a little. Now the plants' 3 leaves are all about 6" long. The new one popping out of the top is only about 1/2" so far. We're making progress, but slowly. I used to have it in a window upstairs, but I moved it to my basement under lights. He likes it better there, I think.

A thousand congratulations from someone who can't bloom a paph. I can understand your excitement and hope to see a bloom sometime soon--after all, you have to have the roots and leaves before you get a flower. So we're on the right path.(Or so I keep telling myself as I look at the lone new leaf on my Naples Nights)Good growing

This guy grows a lot slower than my other Paphs. Is this normal?

Patti - Paph. sanderianum is a very slow grower. I think the only other Paph that may grow slower is Paph. rothschildianum.

Congrats on the new leaf. It is a good sign that you are doing something right.
