My Cycnoches 7/4/08

Here's my Cycnoches cooperi 'SVO III' FCC/AOS x Cycnoches Jean E. Monnier '#2'. When I got it a few months ago, it was just starting a tiny growth from the bulb. I can't wait for this fall, since it's supposed to bloom then!

You can see my Naples Nights buds in the foreground (a little out of focus!)

They grow like weeds don't they?! I love watching them. You can almost see day to day differences when the growths first start. Can't wait to see the blooms, they should be great.

Looks great! Do the spikes come up and grow as fast as the foliage?

I'm not sure, as this is my first time growing a Cycnoches. I'm learning along with others!

Patti, mine looks about the same size as yours. I'm waiting for fall too for my first bloom. Can't wait. I guess we'll all find out then how this orchids grows. I'm still not sure where the spikes are suppose to come from. Very exciting!!!

There's an old stub on the old bulb. It's near the top at one of the lines on the bulb where a leaf once was. I believe that that's where the bloom stalk was last year. This tells me that the bloom stalk should emerge from between the leaves somewhere near the top of the plant, between the leaves. Time will tell!

Cycnoches do bloom from the top of the bulb. Catasetum bloom from the bottom. The blooms on a Cycnoches can develop before or after the leaves fall off for the winter. Most of the photos I have seen still have some leaves on during blooming.

Very nice. I like to see the beginning of spikes so I can see what to look for. I can't wait to see it in bloom.
