Paph. delenatii 'China Doll' x 'Pink Fusion'

I went to Hilltop Orchids this morning only to buy a bag of their potting mix and look what I came home with! My first paph! I am so excited. They had several other types of Paphs in flower which I almost got a green and white one but then my son grabbed the pouch and tore it a little on the one I was going to buy. SO I decided to go for one without a flower and they didn't have any of these in flower so it will be exciting when it blooms as I don't know what to expect yet.

kid_a,

I corrected the spelling and expression of cultivar names in the title of your post. The blooms should be pink, pink, pink! Paph delenatii likes a cool winter (note, not cool and dry, just cool). Some folks here in Melbourne Australia grow them outdoors all year where the winters get down to about 45F. Check out Phillip Cribb's book: Slipper Orchids of Vietnam for some good cultural advice. Paph delenatii isnt' quite like most hybrid paphs.

LOL, Thank you so much Kevin. I am horrible with the taxonomy and to make it even worse spelling too! Sounds interesting the guy said it would be pink and that I would like it. Since this is my first my first paph I have tried to info on this particular type but haven't come up with anything yet. I will try to find that book, I love books! I think I couldn't find anything because I was spelling it wrong. I took a picture of the tag but it was to blurry to read and then sped off to find a high speed internet connection to post pictures from.

It's sweet...You will love it. I have a Paph. delenatii- it's about the same size as yours.- I'm hoping it will bloom this winter. I can't wait. Yours sounds like it's been line-bred for some really good characteristics. That's where the 2 'x' names come in.- Is that right Kevin?
Anyways, we can keep track of each others' progress!

Oh yay! This makes me even more excited! I figured I would have more fun going through the wait until it blooms. It adds a little challenge to it I guess. The grower said it would bloom 2x a year which is cool too!

Oh, cool! I thought they only bloomed once a year. I sure won't mind that!

I have been wanting for a long time was scared to buy one because I thought I would shurely kill it. But thanks to all the great geeks and a 5 or 6 books I feel more confident. All of whole 17 plants are doing great. In March I had one phal and 3 ludisia in a compot on the verges of death. Then I went to the Orchid show here and that did it, now I am addicted and now I actually give them what they need instead of almost the exact opposite. I feel like I am working my way up. My bf says I don't need to but anymore, well I said I neeeeeeed more. I can't stop now, lol!

I was orchid-less until last November. There were 2 Catts. that cought my eye, and I thought, I can grow other plants, maybe I'll try these for the new house.-It's addicting...no doubt about it! The Geeks have been instrumental in my success. I've read alot, etc.- but there's nothing like having friends that you can run all this stuff by!

You're correct patti.

kid_a, I'm afraid the grower exaggerated quite a bit. Once your delenatii gets big enough to have multiple growths in garious stages of maturity it will probably flower every year and will posibly have more than one flower per year, but it won't flower twice a year. Paph delenatii usually flowers seasonally after a cool winter, which of course comes only once a year.

I have paph: malipoense x concolour delenatii = malipoense x Pisar which I believe is now named Alfa Kuong (info courtesy of Kevin-thankyou). I am also patiently waiting for it to bloom. It will be interesting to compare characteristics.

Darn it! Oh well I'm still happy. I thought it was odd because when I asked him what the blooming seasons were he said the normal ones but I didn't think they bloomed twice a year.
