My Neo falcata is spiking too!

Did you notice the spike is purpley pink? It is much more clear in the second picture! I looked at patti's Neo falcata x self and her spike is all green. So I am wondering if Neo falcata is supposed to be green or can it vary or do I have another type of Neo? The tag says Neo falcata on it but I wasn't expecting it to be purply pink. Either way I am super excited. This make it the first orchid I have bloomed completely by myself. I had some help learning to take care of the ludiscia discolor when it rebloomed and it hasn't bloomed since. I am so proud and excited. Now I am just wondering about the color of the spike. This happened over night. It still looked like it could be new growth a few days ago then when patti posted her pick I thought I bet that is what it is but still wasn't sure because I couldn't see the buds the day before yesterday. I called Hoosier orchids where I got it on mother's day and asked if theirs were starting to spike yet and Leon said they were. First hing when I got home I checked and surprise it grew to where I could tell it was definitely a spike! This is confirmation I am doing something right! My Boyfriend didn't want to buy it for me partially because it was $35 bucks and the other part was he said I would kill it. Does any one have any thoughts about the spike cloroing? What has been the color of your spikes?

Congrats! $35 is a great price for that size. How many growths is that? Regarding the spike color, my furan Neo also had colored spikes. It wasn't completely solid red / purple but green with red/purple spots. While the spike was small, it looked more red/purple than it is now. If yours is a solid red/purple, it could be that you have a different variation.

It has seven growths and I thought four new ones but one was a spike. I should've realized because it was directly behind the previous spike on this growth. From what I can tell only two growths had bloomed the year before so I am anticipating at least one more spike soon. It is solid in color purplish/pink maybe a little red somewhere in there. you can see it from the picture pretty good if you click on it. It has green bracts though. I am kind of hoping for a different variation so I can buy another one, lol!

Thumbs up My Gekkeikan is in spike too!

I was watering my Gekkeikan and I noticed that it too is in spike. Really tiny, but it's there! I thought that my Shu Ten Nou was going to spike, but it ended up being roots.

I will have to inspect all of mine carefully to see if there are spikes! I am getting three new ones next week!

I am so addicted

Everyone's Neo's should be coming into spike this time of year!

Patti that banana is hilarious. Dancing banana alright!!!

Congrats. to all with spikes. I keep looking at my Neo. that has something growing from between the leaves. So far looks like new growth. Too teeny tiny to be sure. I'm crossing my fingers I get lucky and get a spike.

April I want some more varieties too but still banned you know.

solay: if it looks like a little green crab claw, it's a spike.

Congrats to all of you.

My two Neo's are just growing leaves. One quickly, one very slowly. Maybe it will spike next season.

Neofinetia falcata is an extremely varied species with flowers coming in various shades of white, pink, green, yellow, and even with varying patterns like white darkening to deep pink on the edges. There aren't any described varieties of Neo falcata but the Japanese have extensively line bred them to produce hundreds of different horticultural cultivars.

Given the pigment in your flower spike, your Neo will probably have some degree of pink in the flowers.

We can't wait to see it and congrats on your first bloom!

Ok I looked at all of my Neo's: looks like the Gojofukurin is spiking (very small), the Shutennou either has a spike or new growth hard to tell, the Furan has a spike, the Kutsuwamushi has either a spike or new growth, have to wait to see and the Darwinara Charm has flowers!

The ones I am getting are: Suikaden (in spike), Hisui (try to find one in spike) and Oonami Seikai (in spike). I also got a black Neo pot with gold feet.

I should stop, I know!

Yay! I can't wait untill it gets bigger so we can see it! It looks you guys had a good time at Holiday World! Gotta love all the free soda pop! This must be the right time for neo blooms. I had forgotten about the blooming season and just realized man everyone's neo is spiking!

Soaly: It probably is! I thought mine was a new growth. The spike is coming out at the base from in between the leaves on mine!

April: Don't stop!!!! I want to see more pictures, hehehe! I can't wait until you get them I am just picturing all of them lined up and arranged neat like in a cute picture.

April, Catts. are not the same as Neos. If only I could have gotten 20 Neos. instead of Catts. Now that's a purchase!!!

Kortney, it must be the season. I keep looking at mine and willing it to grow faster so I can be sure it is or is not a spike. I'm so hoping.

Can't wait to see them all blooming though.
