| My Neo. falcata x self- is in spike! A few months ago, I bought a Neofinetia falcata x self, from Hausermans. It hasn't done a lot since then, except grow some nice juicy roots. Tonight I saw this "thing" coming from what I thought was the beginning of a new fan. I looked closer, and it's a spike for sure! If you click on the 2 close-ups to enlarge them, I think you can see it! I'm REALLY happy right now.

| Dang, those are some happy roots! And from the looks of it, you're going to be getting a lot of blooms pretty soon. Very cool!

- It's so nice to have all of you to share this with. While my husband is very happy that I'm happy, he doesn't quite get why I'm so pleased with a little "thing" coming out of a plant. You geeks are the best.

| I know the feeling patti. My wife thinks my giant Neo looks 'weird' although she does appreciate me trying to explain all this to her. haha Question: is there any difference between a 'x self' and a division? Is there a chance to unleash some dormant genes and get some unique traits? |
| |||
| There is a very, very slight chance of two very deep hidden genes lining up and producing the unique but with your luck - nah :>) But if it does, please share divisions of it with me :>) Brooke |

A division is when you separate or divide a larger plant to make smaller ones. When a plant has an "x" in it, it's a plant grown from seed and the 2 parents are listed. This is a species plant that they pollinated with its own pollen. Hence the x self. It should be pretty much like the parent, but sometimes a little twist pops in! This was a good size when I got it, so I'm pretty sure it had bloomed previously. I'm sure if there was anything unusual about it, they would have kept it for hybridizing. I just want a nice white Neo, so I'm thrilled! I have a lavender one and a miniature one also. again to all of you for all of the nice comments.
