Masdevallia guttulata

Looks like I have a little flower spike starting! Oh I am so excited. This is my first Masdevallia, and I've been worried that I'd kill it, since it sounds like so many other people have issues keeping these.

Anyway, in the picture, if you look right above the new growth...is that a little flower starting?

I also added a picture with my Tinkerbelles to show the size difference...or maybe just bc it's so cute.

JoBeth

Great growing, could be a spike, looks like it to me. Wow what a size difference. They both look great!

Do you have a fan on yours?

I have a ceiling fan on 24/7 for all the orchids. It gives a good amount of air movement. I didn't want something blowing them over But it feels like a breeze

My Masdie's are directly in front of a little fan, it blows their leaves. I also have a large ceiling fan and when I only had that it wasn't enough for them. I was worried about the fan right in front of them, but they seem to like it and the Celtic Frost has new growth!

You must be doing something right with the spike!

I've had the guttulata for just exactly one month, so I'm hoping that within that time if I wasn't giving it what it needed it would have shown it. I *hope*

JoBeth, It looks great! I think it may be a spike, from the photos I've seen. Your Tinkerbelles looks so cute in that pot! It's a sweetheart, isn't it?

Jo Beth, by chance what is the mix that the guttulata is in, and how often do you water with that mix?

Looks like a mix of very fine bark, with some sponge rock. I water it every 4-5 days usually. Whenever it starts feeling light or looks like it may be starting to get dry.

JoBeth I think you need to buy more. Looks like they like your place. I hope it's a spike too. That's so exciting. Good growing!!! What color will it be?

It will be a whitish color with little speckles.

IOSPE PHOTOS

Looks like this one is more of a warm growing one though. So the Tinkerbelles may be more of a challenge for me. My orchid room stays around 80 degrees during the day at least. I may get a small fan to blow directly towards the few that I have that like it a little bit cooler. But all of them seem to be doing well. Too soon to tell for the Tinkerbelles though.
