| My Tinkerbelles!
I love this little darlin'! She's stolen my heart. ![]() When I didn't kill my first Masdie, Masdevalia (White Swallow x Minaret), I figured I needed to give him a friend. Thanks to Joe, I now have Tinkerbelles to keep him company! The day that "Tinker" arrived, My other Masdie showed a new growth! Yay! The new growth is doing well and I now have 3 new growths starting!! This picture was taken a couple of days ago...When there was still one. I think he likes his new tiny friend! ![]() Picture #1- Masd. Tinkerbelles Picture #2- New growth on Masd. Roofus (White Swallow x Minaret)

Masd. Roofus is a cross between a white and a light pink w/darker streaks. It could bloom numerous ways. I can't wait to see it- Thanks for the Tinkerbelles photo, Joe! Thanks also for these 2 beautiful plants.

Patti I loved mine too. I'm still hoping it's going to pull through. It's down to one leaf now. I love mini orchids in general. Jenny I need some fairy dust too to help mine survive. If you find some let me know! Joe if you find more, let me know. I might have to get another one. Time will tell. Thanks.

Can somebody tell me what this plant is? I've seen Tinkerbelles, Tinker Bells, Tinkerbells...... is this a registered grex? If not, what is the cross? Looks like it could be out of Masd constricta but no such offspring exists. Cain't find nothin'. Just another dumb Kentuckian I guess. I might need a smart pill, but I think Bill Gates bought them all. |

Masd datura x Masd erinacea = Masd Tinker Belles, registered 2002 by L. O'Shaugnessy (G. Staal) I got this information from the RHS database, so I'm guessing it's somewhat reliable.

My label says Tinkerbelles (datura x erinacea) I'll have to check out the spelling... Thanks for bringing this up!

Hey thanks for the help guys. The mystery is solved. Since 2001 Masd erinacea is Diodonopsis erinacea so the offspring Tinker Belles is an intergeneric hybrid (Ddo x Masd) known as Diovallia (Dvl). So the official name is Diovallia Tinker Belles. |

I found the perfect "home" for her... It's a cut-stone votive holder. It's got air holes in the sides. It's very small, but I'll wait for her to get a little bigger. For now, I've kept her in the little cell, and put it inside a napkin ring for stability.

I can't follow all the name changes because there are so many names I have no idea what they are!

6/27/08 Here's a pic of my Tinker Belles in a napkin ring so it won't tip over! I'll re-pot it down the road, but I want it to get used to it's new home first. My other Masdie Roofus, is in the background. There are 4 new growths on it. I'm psyched!

As long as there is new growth, your plant is settling in. remember they lose old leaves just like other orchids. if you like the coccinea alba x Hirasakie now wait till it blooms next season, you will really LOVE it. its one of my favorites. Joe Last edited by jbigio; 06-27-2008 at 10:34 PM. |

Here is an update on my Tinkerbelles. She is looking a bit rough. It took a while for her to adjust, and now I have her in my basement under a CFL. She did lose more than a few leaves in the process. BUT as of yesterday, I saw new growth, YAY!! The current leaves aren't looking really great...but I'm hoping new leaves will be perfectly fine.

Wow, JoBeth! Yours gets the prize for doing the best, I think! Mine lost a few leaves a couple of weeks ago. It has 4 leaves, now. They seem to be doing O.K., but I would feel better if they started showing signs of improving. At least they're not going down-hill any more. I'll try to update photos this weekend sometime. Keep up the good work!

I have sad news to report. I think it's just too arid in my apartment for it....But then again the others are doing okay.... :hmmm: I have to figure out what the issue is. I have a couple doing good and a couple doing fair. Joe~ When I figure what's going on and resolve the problem, I'd like another Tinkerbelle.

Jenny, I've been keeping quiet cause mine really kicked the bucket a long time ago. So sad. The other 3 I have are doing fine but the mini went so fast. I want another one too. Maybe the next one will do better. Seems more sensitive than the regular sized ones. JoBeth your doing something right to have it survive as long as it has.

I am keeping it in the basement....it's between 70-75 degrees down there. It might get a tiny bit cooler at night, but I haven't monitored the thermometer at night. The humidity is around 50% I believe. I turn a small table fan on every day for a while, but it's not blowing on it 24/7. That's it! Oh, and I just have it sitting under a small table lamp with a CFL bulb.

JoBeth~Does your temps stay consistant or is there any flux? I think that's what my problem is. I have too much of an inconsistancy in maintaining temperature. My temps bounce from 69 degrees to as high as 81 at any given time. The Hirasaki cross and Hawaiian Sunset doesn't seem to care about it, but the others show unhappy thoughts at me.

Thanks! My conditions sound a lot like yours. I've moved it as far away from the lights on my stand as I can. My temps are 70-75F, also. Here's what's left of her!

Oh that looks good Patti! I bet you'll have some new growth soon. My upstairs room was too hot for mine, temps can get up to 83 in there. I thought putting it closer to the fan would make it ok, that's when it lost two leaves. Then i moved it downstairs, and it didn't lose any leaves, but I hated leaving it in the basement bc I didn't have a fan for the basement, so I tried moving it to my main floor, and it lost a few more leaves...so back to the basement she went. I just noticed today another teeny tiny green growth starting. I had to look VERY closely to see it |

They dont like heat the temps should be under 75 for them but it look like you guys are on your way with them. dont forget to feed weakly evry two weeks. I have a new division that will be ready in about two weeks I want it to settle down before selling

I'm fanagling around my apartment now looking for a cool, flowy area now.

While I hadn't moved mine from the basement, I HAD moved it a little closer to the lights. I guess she told me! Since moving her back to the farthest corner from the lights, she's holding her own. I'm about to go water before work. I'll go check her first thing!

Alright Patti!!! Seems like the new growth appears overnight! But you have to look VERRRRY closely to notice it. I haven't checked mine for 2 days now. I better check to see how it's coming along. Maybe I'll find another growth |
