I can't believe how small some of these orchids are.
Does anyone know what is considered the smallest orchid by plant and/or flower size?
This one has to be close.

Jay,
I believe Platystele jungremannioides is considered the smallest orchid. It's
flowers are 1/100 of an in. in diameter and the entire plant is 1/4 in. tall. You
have to see the bloom with a magnifying glass

IOSPE PHOTOS

Can you imagine the size of the pollinator.

JoBeth they look good. I don't see any spikes on yours yet. Hope it blooms for you soon. Are you happy with your purchase. They are cute aren't they? I think you got yours a lot faster than I did. It took several weeks to get mine.

I read a story somewhere about someone that became interested in the Shoenorchis when they met a man at an orchid show wearing one on his lapel that was in full bloom. I admit, I would like to get one of these, I like them, and when it blooms I can wear it like a pin hee hee.

Tobi-that little orchid is amazing, and the blooms are really cute. I think these would be considered micro-minis lol.

Pocket orchids! Very cute! Nice mounts - did you do those or did they come that way? In either case, they look terrific!

Hi JoBeth, two amazing little plants and they look to be in perfect health. Did you have any problem with the import? Do you know the species name for your plants? I believe there are about ten species and they are quite different.

Tobi, quote: 'I believe Platystele jungremannioides is considered the smallest orchid'.
When I saw the pic I was astonished at the size of the flower. It would be incredible if there is one smaller.

Bill

JoBeth yours are looking great. Mine is just doing OK. One out of the two developed a dark spot on the tip. Maybe over fertilizing? Do you fertilize yours?
Also the potential spike just turned brown and never flowered. I have a feeling it may be too dark where I have them now. At least they are still alive.

Solay, I haven't been fertilizing. I'm a bad girl. Did you get yours with a spike already on it? After I received mine, one dropped two leaves, and the other does have a dark end on one of the leaves...I figured it was stress...and I watched for new growth. Now that I see a new roots, and a new leaf on each one, I'm not worried anymore.

Bill, I should have included this before...both are Schoenorchis fragrans.
No issues with the import, they came from Taiwan, and were here in about 8 days I believe.

Yes Jobeth. One came with blooms but I had the first one that looked like it was spiking but failed to. I think I will stop fertilizing them. Maybe they don't like that and definitely need more light. I'll post a pic. of them when I get a chance.

As for the import. Maybe they are so small that it just goes through the mail. No papers.

Mine were in tiny lipstick boxes, pressed into an envelope. It looked so flat that I started panicking when I got it

I wonder if I can find the world's smallest orchid for sale somewhere? When I get some free time I'll see if there are any on line.

OK, here are mine. They look OK. They are still green. That's always good. The first one on top lost a few leaves and has a dark tip on the newest leaf too. I hope it'll be OK. That's why I bought two more as back up. They are the cutest things and the blooms are a pretty purplish color.

Thanks JoBeth. I thought it would be nice if they all bloom at the same time.

Katrina I have them on the same pieces of bark they came on and I just mounted that on of cork. I bought the bottom two from the same seller as JoBeth. The top one I got from a different seller on e-bay.
