Restrepia Issues???

I got this restrepia trichoglossa on mother's day. It hasn't had any new growths and no blooms yet. I'm wondering if I am not giving it what it needs. I searched around the internet and from what I found all the culture info says they are cool growers but will still thrive in warmer temps when their other needs are met. When I got it the leaves were reddish brown but now they are bright green. I am wondering if it is getting to much light. They get 60-80 percent humidity, good airflow, always moist, good full spectrum light. Anyone have any thoughts, advice, or have a restrepia that is growing and blooming?

This is what it looked like when I got it:

The only thing that changed is the leaf color.

Hi Kortney, Maybe the plant have to much light! If my understanding of light reaction is ok. To higher level of light will induce redish leaves! My restrepia is set at a bit lower level of light then my phal and the light source was neon! But do you watch the root, the root are sensitive to salt. Your fertilizer schedule what was it, do you excide 400 micro Siemmens. If you excide that level that will kill root! And me last point of observation, you said always moist, to much moisture in most will engage some trouble! I'M not sure that realy help you, but is some some you have to check to have go result with this plant.

Your light levels are good now.

My first look at your photo made me think the plant was going to die.

This kind of yellowing often indicates dried out roots and rapid deterioration. The other cause of this coloration is light levels approaching sun-burn.

Since you say the leaves turned green we can safely conclude that the light level had been too high and you have corrected it. The plant should do fine. It still was a lot of stress for the plant to be subjected to that much sun. The plant may take more time to recover further.

Thanks guys!
Jerry that would make sense I got it from the greenhouse but once under the lights they are now bright green. I bet it was stressed I wonder if that is why it was free! I want to get more but I want to make sure I can get this thing growing. I saw a setup one person had in a exo terra tank that was neat so I was was thinking maybe I could try that. There is a member here who has either masdivallia or draculas growing in a tank on its end but I can't remember who it was.

I really don't fertilize much, I think I have fertilized it once since I'v had it with Schultz orhid food half of the recommended strength per gallon. So it sounds like at least I am doing the lighting right, lol!

OrchidWiz gives the light requirements at 1500-2300 fc's, filtered or bright diffused light with no midday sun.

Hope that helps.

Kortney
my restrepia trichoglossa looked almost the same as yours when I first got the plant
I found that the reddish leaves was due to to much light

but as Jerry has mentioned as you now have green leaves you have the right conditions for the plant.

Thanks Fred! I was under the impression that it would bloom year round from each new leaf growth!I think the care sheet I got with it from Hoosier orchids said that. That helps a bunch!

Yay! My Restrepia surprised me yesterday! And thought something was wrong with it, lol! My grandma closed the windows in my room to turn on the a/c yesterday, but I had the vents closed ha ha ha. When I got home at midnight was checking out all my plants lo and behold I had a bud getting ready to open! It is very sparkly looking with deep red and green with stripes. I also just happened to leave my camera at work so no pics yet I will get some pics today. I checked this morning and it hadn't opened yet. I think I will have to buy some more before hoosier orchids closes!

Restrepia's will do that surprise you that is
they do seen to stop growing then all of a sudden they go through a burst and put up flower buds then the next thing you will see new growths as well
they can flower anytime if the conditions are right.
I can not wait to see pics of the flowers as they are very nice lol ( I think so )

Not yet, lol! After work I have to grab my left over pizza hut from my boyfriend's house so he doesn't eat it. Then rush home and hope it's open by now! I don't think the flowers last very long though Of course I hope I'm wrong, I think they only last a few days.
