New spkies and growths

P. Magic Kiss
I am really excite about this one respiking because the spike was broken when I bought and I really didn't get to enjoy the flowers. They are beautiful and peloric!

P. Long Pride Snow Crane
Yay! This one is respiking too!

These will be my first rebloom of Phal. The only rebloom I have had so far was for the Ludiscia discolor.

Ludiscia Discolor
This baby is growing faster now than it ever has the whole time I have had it (almost four years now). The leaves usually open one at a time but this picture shows the new leaf not even finished opening yet with another already growing inside. This is awesome! Using better light, air flow, humidity, and superthrive has helped a lot!

Stima. Kelly 'Lea'
This plant has 4 new growths total so far. The newest one I can't get a picture of very well because it is the middle of all the leaves. The first picture show the second youngest growth and the second picture shows the two older growths that will hopefully throw up a spike soon!

sedieria japonica
This is the first new root growth I have had in the two months I have had it. There is a new root nub on another root that just started to grow too. Also the two newst leaves are still growing.

Regal Bells x Brother Fortune Gleen
This thing has a beautiful new root growing that is growing so fast! This is over about two or three weeks.

Brother Sarah Gold
This thing almost died a while back. I call it my comeback Phal. It now has a new root growing (not in picture), and two new leaves growing! Yay maybe it will flower ina few years again!

And that is is for now. The Restrepia I have hasn't done much of anything at all. The temps may be too high? I am probably going to repot it in new sphag. But then I think it's Vivi that had one mounted. There's an idea! I don't want to hinder it by repotting or stress it or anything though. The sphag is looking kinda like it is staying too moist on the top so I wonder what the inside looks like. I also don't want to break off any roots.

Congrats on the new growths and spikes. I can't wait to see the blooms on the Phals. I have some that are getting new growth too and it's so fun to watch them grow.

It is wonderful! My plants are doing something! For the last three years the ones I had never really did anything, some minor adjustments, and wallah! Growth galore! Even when I lived with my son's dad years ago he had so many orchids but I didn't really know that much about caring for them, he did all the work and I just looked at them! I did learn some things but now that I know what my plants need they are doing awesome (except the restrepia, all though the leaves are now bright green instead of reddish green). Yay! Thanks guys for all your help and previous posts that helped me out!

Nope, they are very shiny huh? I didn't even realize that till you mentioned it! Although I have been wondering about this spray I saw called leaf shine, my stima. Kelly 'Lea' has some dust or dirty leaves, it was like that when I bought it and the one I just got today is too. I got both at the same place. Well, I have only had the P. magic Kiss and the P. Long pride snow crane for about two or three months, the brother sarah gold for three years, the sedieria japonica since april, the neo since mothers day, the regal bells x since march, the stima. Kelly 'Lea' for about three or four weeks. Most of them are fairly new because I have a growing addiction :-) ! All together I have 17 plants now and only 2 I have had for more than a year, but two of them were rescues half price deals because the flowers dropped and they were beginning to rot from over watering.

Wow, that's impressive! I know how you feel, too - every time I see any new growth I'm just so darned happy. I'd give my orchids treats like I do the fuchsias, but I haven't figured out anything that won't kill them, so I clean their leaves to thank them for growing.

And yes, I really do give my fuchsias treats - 'coffee cakes' of coffee grounds from the espresso machine, the occasional cigar butt, egg shells, worm castings - yes I know that makes me weird and I can live with that!

Lol.. Thats funny orchidementia! As long as you plants are happy right! I let mine listen to coast to coast at night while they are sleeping. They don't seem to mind.

Kortney, they look great You have the "touch"! I wouldn't recommend the leaf-shine. It looks pretty, but I've heard that it clogs the pores of the leaf and they can't "breathe" as well.
Just a thought. Make sure you post pictures of the blossoms!

yuk! well I don't want to do that! I'll just use some soapy dish water then wipe the leaves off with a wet cotton ball. I used q-tips and water but there are still some dirt spots where the water dried.

I will definitely post pictures when they bloom! I can't wait this is so exciting! Hopefully the next plant that will bloom will be the Slc. Alvin Beggman Poet It has a pike too but can't take the credit since I've only had it almost two days now! Oh yeah, hopefully the cathy Beck will before that one, I guess it's racing time for those two, lol!

My Slc. Mem. Alvin Beggman Poem is very dear to me, as you already know! My blooms are over for this year, so I'm looking forward to seeing yours!
You're right! This IS exciting!

Congrats and good growing. You will have to keep us updated as all of those new growths develop blooms.

Kourtney use lemon juice to wash and remove the water spots. Then spray the foliage to remove the lemon juice - try to keep the juice from going into the media and then flush the media out. Lemon juice won't damage the roots but no reason to add it to your media.

Kourtney, Another recipe for leaf wash comes by way of Brookn. She uses 10 drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid, about 1-1/2 tsps of cinnamon extract and two cups of water. Not only does it clean your leaves, the bugs don't like it at all. This is the stuff that Jenny raves about so much. It is terrific stuff BTW, when you appreciate the roots and new growth as much as the blooms, you know you are hopelessly lost. Good growing

OK! I use that when I bring them home for the first time or whenever I need to dry up something. So far these 2 are the only ones that have just generally dirt leaves. It makes me wonder how the leaves had gotten so dirty in the first place! I usually don't water from above unless I'm flushing though. But recently started misting the leaves and aerial roots in the morning with worm tea, superthrive, r/o water. But for these two I haven't washed them down yet with brookn's recipe. I will do that probably Monday cuz I am out of town right now. Thanks! I try the lemon juice too and see how that works, I'm all out of cinnamon extract except for the little bit I have left in the spray bottle.
