My saved Phal.

This guy was on the way down. I decided to experiment and got a piece of cork some wet spag. some coco fiber and mounted the Phal with out roots. It was looking very bad but 2 months later after consistent watering it pulled through and now in all of it glory it gives me two aerial roots. The spag dries out by the time I water every morning but it does well like this. I guess it is happy upside (natural position). I don't think I shot any before pictures...but the after will do.

I'm just starting to experiment with mounting my plants...how often do you fertilize them? Do you ever use worm tea?

I fertilize by pump spray every other with 20-20-20 according to the labels. Worm tea every other week in between the 20-20-20's. I add superthrive once a month to the 20-20-20.

I water it at least ever morning more often if it has been a rough hot day. Upside down really takes minimizes the chances for crown rot, I think...because water doesn't stay in the middle.

Sounds like you put a lot of effort in reviving it. The hard work paid off. I haven't experienced crown rot yet, but if I ever do I know what to do. Hang it!!!

Awesome, and good job! I think the next time I lose all roots on a phal I will try that (which will hopefully not happen again, but who knows, lol).

Damien I LOVE mounting my phals to cork with spraghum. Mine dry out completely overnight as well but they are thriving. I have never thought of using it as a rescue mode, but since I have a potted phal starting to fail I just might try it. Heaven knows sprag and bag doesn't work!

It's much improved! Maybe consider pumping up the air circulation to cut down on the leaf spotting? I find these sorts "saves" teach me so much about growing in my particular conditions. It's really useful for the longterm.

Thanks for the heads up Kevin, I will move it up to the mid to top section of my shelf.

PhalPal, this was purely experimental and there were moments where I thought it wouldn't make it (early on)...with wrinkled leaves and such...but I suppose that was only because of th orginal root rot.

Such a difference between pic "A" and pic "B" I choose "B" by far. You did an awesome job with this Phal. I have yet to mount a Phal, but this shows that they like it!

I took Kevin's advice and moved the Phal to a higher position on my orchid shelf. So far the spotting hasn't reappeared . Thanks Kevin!
