Very nice. It's so hard to wait for it to open fully. I've been waiting on a Paph. for days. They do take their sweet time.

Sorry Jenny. I hate that! The new Phal. I got blasted all the buds except 5 or so.

Its in a southern window. I water about every three days and feed once a week. I was so afraid that I would kill this one, but so far so good. Thanks for looking. I'll post one more when the flower is fully extended and try to give you a size comparison.

Those are probably one of my most favorite orchid flowers of all. Pictures of them are one thing, but seeing them in person is stunning. I went up to Owen's Nursery in the mountains of NC a couple weeks ago, and they had rows and rows of these all in full bloom. I wish I could have gotten a picture!

Thanks for sharing!

I agree that you have to see one to appreciate it fully. I never wanted one until I saw them growing in a green house. The pictures in the books don't do them justice. I'm facinated by the size of the blooms.

I just love Psychopsis. It is fun to watch them move as they open. You can see differences almost every hour. Thanks for sharing.

Red face final pics of Psych

I tried to give some reference to her size. I've seen slightly bigger blooms, but I'm not complaining. I'm just grateful that I didn't kill her. Thanks for looking!

Hera, How nice! If it's it's first blooming, the size could be a little larger next time. Also, the bloom usually gets a little bigger after it's been open for a bit. Thanks for posting the reference in size. I always thought they were about the size of Tolumnia blooms until I saw one in person!! Wowsers!! Nice bloom!

Patti,
She is bigger today! About a half inch since it has filled out and the top has straightened. I'm in love.

hera, what is your Psychopsis potted in? I have one potted in coco husk chips, and it's doing well, but I was wondering what other members are using.

It's in the standard bark, charcol, perlite. I think that batch came from BetterGro. I prefer Schultz because its not as dusty, but I haven't been able to find it in a while. I left styrofoam in the bottom for drainage and the mix is more open than I do most of my other orchids. I water about every three days. MSU fertilizer. So far so good.

AWESOME! I was hoping she still had a little ways to go! I like Schultz's mix, also-The "good" places around here all sell Better Gro, which I don't like as much. I get Schultz at Walmart!
