I know that it's just a leaf...

I think the pattern on the Psychopsis leaf is so cool... This is a new leaf on my Psychopsis that I bought in April.

That is a very beautiful leaf. And my husband likes the psychopsis (any excuse to buy a new chid). What is the full name of your orchid I think I might have to get one...

The colors and the pattern on that are probably the prettiest I've seen. There are some Paph. leaves that are gorgeous ( and I've got one) but this takes the prize!!!!! GORGEOUS!

Onc.Mendenhall 'Hildos' (Butterfly x papilio)

That's what's on the tag. I've got a long wait, for the bloom, but it's worth it to me. I LOVE the bloom! Something to look forward to!

I think some leaves are as pretty as flowers or sometimes even prettier.

Yours is one of them and it looks great.

Thanks for the picture.

I notice you did not show the pseudobulb.

Psychopsis have the most wrinkled dead looking bulbs of any healthy plant I have ever seen. It is like being born 80 years old. Even flowering plants have shallow roots so they should be placed where they are not disturbed, you do not want them coming out of the pots. I add pot clips to most of mine.

Fortunately the bulbs are small so not as noticeable and as I said it does not effect the heath of the plant.

Flowers once they start can bloom for years off the same flower stem.

An interesting and frustrating point is that once the flower stem starts it can take 2-4 months to develop a bud. Then the flower will live 3-6 weeks and after it falls off a new bub will develop and open 3-6 weeks later.

patlee, I got it from a vendor at the Genesee Region Orchid Society Spring Show- In Rochester, NY- Maybe Tobi can shed some light on this, since it was his clubs' show. I don't remember the vendors' name.

Thanks, pikevi!

Jerry- It's a really small plant, but it has the cutest little pseudobulb! I'll try to post a pic. tonight on this thread. I have to head out to work. Thanks for the info- I'm REALLY new to this guy!

Patti, I'm hijacking your thread for just a second here. I commented about your comp. photo in the chit-chat section but you probably haven't seen it so I think I'll have better luck here, asking where you bought the Neofinetia falcata 'Syojou' from?

OK, my second is up. Back to the topic, Psychopsis leaf...

Apologies everyone.

PM me with where the vendor was downstairs (If you remember), I try and find out more
information for all.

Sandra, No apology needed! I bought it from New World Orchids. He was great! He also potted them for me. Nice place, and he makes several trips a year to Japan for the newest and hardest to find. I wish I could win the lottery-

I have a Psyc Mendenhall "Hildos" that is ready to open the bloom any day now. I can't wait. I used to think they were ugly until I saw one in person... they are amazing!

I just love beautiful leaves and those sure are gorgeous. I really enjoy nice foliafe and roots; I think it is just as important because they are what we live with most of the year.
