Prosthecea cochleata

I know its common, but its still one of my favorites. Its grown 5 new pseudo bulbs in the last year and has one current spike and one forming. MSU fertilizer and twice a week watering, medium bark with charcol and added clay "chunks". Enjoy.

Lovely Hera. I have a Green Hornet that is also one of my favorites. I love the way they
continuously shoot out bloom after bloom.

Very pretty!!! I have a cochleata Green Hornet on it's way! It should be here when I get home from work!

I love being at the beach and flying awesome kites... This bloom reminds me of a seashell kite of some kind.- (No, I'm not on drugs! )

OOOooo where did you get your Green Hornet? I'm still waiting on my spike from my Prosthecea cochleata to do something! Ever since I found it, it has done nothing. Driving me nuts.

I have one too hera and am enjoying it sooooooo much. Just bought mine in April and it's put out 2 spikes filled with flowers and still loaded with top buds. It's growing 6 more psbulbs also. I've been wanting this orchid for over a year and it was worth the wait. I still can't remember why I waited so long though.

Enjoy and thanks for posting yours!

I got it from Oak Hill. The same place that Sandra got hers. I can't wait!

Not cochleata Green Hornet patticake, the name cochleata is the species name in Prostechea cohcleata. the genus for the hybrid Green hornet is also Prosthechea, so Prostechea Green Hornet.

I noticed that some of you said that your cochleata hadn't done anything in a long time. Mine took a year off from rapid growth, like it was resting, and then it just acted like it was on steroids. Right now I'm seeing more growth than it has put out in ages. Why, I don't know, but I've heard that some orchids will go through a period of resting.

I just got mine from a division not long ago from another member. (Thread Wonderful Gift! ) Here about a month ago I found a spike/bud on it. Darn thing hasn't moved since. Almost like once I found it, it was too scarred to move, LOL!

This pic was taken on 5/6/2008.

Jenny,
It's not unusal for it to take a couple of months from the time the sheath
forms until the onslaught of buds come marching forward. I believe mine
was in sheath for 2 and 1/2 mos. before I saw the little buggers inside.
