Does this sound like a good idea??

I go away for twelve days tomorrow and am having a slight panic about my orchids.

A good soaking is in progress as we speak.

The plan is to move them all into the bathroom which is nice and light but cooler than thier usual spot. Hopefully they won't dry out as quickly.

I usually water once a week at this time of year so they have to last an extra five days.

What do you reckon, will they be ok??

Thanks in advance for your help.

It sounds good to me! I'm going away for 2 weeks in August- I have a friend coming over to take care of the chids and the cats. She's really good with plants, but I'm nervous already! Is there someone that could check on them mid-way through?
I hope you're going to have a good time. Let us know how you make out!

Sounds perfect You can always use the bath idea to raise the humidity abit more to keep transpiration down.

Water them well the morning before, they'll be fine

And dont worry about them while your away!! Enjoy your holiday!

It depends on what kinds of orchids you have. What kind are they?

I am off for 15 days to Alaska. We have a house sitter that will take care of the cats and plants. Right now all the orchids are outside so I will give her instructions on when to water them. Hopefully she will do things right. (Crossing fingers here).

I think putting them all together in the cooler bathroom is a good idea. They can help each other out with humidity.

All kinds kevin.

Phals,
Paphs
Catts
Mas
Aspasia
Zygo
Odont
Dens
Epidendrum
Milt

Think that's it

At the moment they are all well watered and sitting in the (dry) bath in close proximity to each other.

I was also at the holiday few weeks ago and my plants were alone for the 10 days. They were in the greenhouse where the temps were very high during the day. All of them survived, they were dehydrated but alive. Few days after watering they all plumped up. So don't worry, I think that everything will be ok.

I would just put some moss on the top of the pot of Masd, Milt or paph because they like constant moisture...

I think they would be fine in the bathroom. It isn't the optimal place but I think they can handle it there for 12 days...better than drying off.

Sounds like the bathroom is a good place for them.

I'm leaving for a week. Some are staying outside but I'm moving them to a shadier place where they will get watered twice with our sprinkling system. Some are coming in and I'm filling the kitchen sink part way and then putting bricks in it and placing a grate over that will keep the orchids I bring inside above the water.

I'm hoping they all will be fine.

If you water the orchids well before you leave, they should be fine. Most adult orchids can easily go for several weeks without water. Just enjoy your vacation!

Enjoy your trip!!! They should be just fine for that long. It sounds as if you have prepared them very good.
