Phal repotting questions

I was wondering. will I be able to straighten this plant out when I repot? It is a large plant in a six inch pot. I was planning on just putting it in fresh mix, and keeping it in that pot. Do you think I should put in a larger pot?

You can repot it in the same pot or same size pot. Since it's currently in a clay pot, some roots may be attached to it. So be careful when removing that Phal.

If the roots are stuck to the clay you might be able to loosten them by soaking pot and all in water then gently wiggling them loose. They really stick to the porous material which I why I use plastic for everything.

Assuming that when you take it out of the pot you don't have trouble with the roots, I see no problem with repotting in the same size pot with the plant in a vertical position. You may need to support it until it is established.

The advice is that the pot should only accommodate the roots and a bit more. If you find that there are not enough roots, you may even have to pot down a notch. Orchids bloom better in tight pots.

I just finished , and was amazed how good the roots looked compared to when I pulled the poor thing out of wet soggy moss a few years ago! the bark mix was starting to break down, so I got it in time. I only had to cut about 3 dead roots I actually put it in a pot of greater diameter, but 1 inch less depth, I think it looks good in its new home
