My Max. tenuifolia is blooming!

My mouth waters everytime I get a sniff of their scent. It transports me to the beach.

Too bad they haven't invented a polaroid version of smell-a-photo...lol.

Sandra, has your Max. bloomed? These are from the same batch.

Mine, too. Love that smell! I've got 3 in 4" pots and buds on all of them, so I can spread them around the yard to fill the yard with coconut oil scent. Like you said, takes you right to the beach!

I agree with the aroma. Mine has two blooms and I have to sniff it each time I pass.

Coconuts are delicious! Ha! Ha! I have one too but hasn't bloomed in about 2 years now. Maybe it will this year. Cross my fingers.

I want to go to the beach too. Good growing Damien.

I am glad I am not the only one enjoying this gem of an orchid. It is one of my favorite orchids...it not only smells great but I think the plant looks pretty.

Outstanding Damien! Congratulations!

No, nothing yet. I just repotted mine yesterday. I had it in a plastic pot with the slits up the sides....I hate these pots, they dry everything out way too fast. I changed it to the bottom holes, cone on the bottom and added more coir to the mix. Now, hopefully, the plant will retain the moisture inbetween watering. I've got the pina colada mix ready though for the big event, can't wait!

When i replanted this orchids, I decided to put the sisters in different homes. One in a pot, the other mounted on cork. They are both doing well, but the in the pot looks like it on steroids. The pseudo bulbs are smooth and look like they are going to pop. I have the potted one half alifor/other ceramic and half bark/charcoal/some old moss from before.

Is that what you see in stores (WalMart) that they call a coconut orchid?

Excellent!
Mine isn't blooming yet. Last year it bloomed right around the end of May, when it started warming up! Can't wait, though.

Well, then maybe I should go get one of those at WalMart. They've been there so long the price tag is weathering off. I was hoping they'd reduce the price. They are in plastic hanging baskets and still look pretty good. Is $20.00 a decent price?

That's about what I paid for mine.

The plant isn't that difficult to grow. When they are healthy their bulbs are plump and beautifuL!

Please tell me what I am doing wrong??????

If the pbulbs are plump and it's healthy but not blooming...I would say a lack of light is the issue. Which seems to be the case w/most orchids...no blooms but otherwise healthy...except for no blooms... usually means not enough light.

Mine is blooming right now...small, small plant w/3 buds...it's sitting w/my catts so the light is pretty high.

OK. I went and got one of these at Super WalMart today. Looked carefully at all 5 or 6 they had trying to decide which one I should pick. Finally just picked one. They have been there a long time and water just poured out of the tray attached to the plastic hanging pot. I need to repot. Is basic bark mix OK? I can't find finer bark at the store so would have to shop the web. Or, I did consider putting some bark in food processor, but I think I'd get in trouble with Hubby.
After choosing the plant I buzzed through the store for a few items as the cupboard is bare and didn't have time to hit the usual grocery store before my window for the plumber. After 20 mins. or so I'm heading toward checkout and this lady points at me with a package of sausage in her hand (I thought she was going to hand it to me) She said "you've got a grasshopper." "I do? (eek) where?" Thinking it was on me. She pointed him out sitting on the orchid. He looked like a leaf hopper, but brown. I left him alone and we got through checkout and I nudged him onto a bush once outside and he kind of flew. I'm glad we didn't buckle in together because if he'd stared to fly around in the car I might of freaked.
I'll try to get a picture later. (of the plant, not the leafhopper)

I am surprised you found one at WalMart since they are discontinuing the sale of orchids.

This is blooming season for these. I only saw 6 in bloom of over 2000 but I have another one pop a bud open every week. You should get flowers this season. The plant looks healthy for WalMart.

I think they smell more like a Pina Colada then straight coconut.
