My new Catt.!

Hi, y'all! My honey and I went on a little over-night to celebrate our first ann.- We stopped at Lowes, to get a few things for his office. Lo-and behold, there were orchids there!! The Lowes near us aren't loaded with orchids!! There were orchids in net bags( torture sleeves). I loved the Large orange one- ( I thought of you, Tobi!) But the plant was in VERY poor condition. All the new growth was black- Yuk!
There was a small Catt., that I took a shine to! I had heard of the name before, and it was on my list!!!! Yay! The name is - SLC. Jewel Box 'Scheherezade'. It's a sweet red- It's potted up now, and I'll look after it!
Below are some photos!(I hope)
I had a photo that wasn't what I had intended... Sorry about the last one, I don't know how to deleate it! I don't think the folks at our hotel pictured anyone soaking their Orchid in one of the coffee cups!
I have it potted now,- I'm so excited!

We had a great time. Quiet, relaxing, peaceful. but -Too short!
Jenny- I didn't actually pot it up till I got home....o.k., you can stop laughing now...I just let it out of it's restraints and soaked it at the hotel. There was an orange Catt. that I really liked the picture (and thought of Tobi!),but the plant was in crappy shape. I had heard of this little red chid before, and at $5.99, I couldn't say no. The pot was cool... That was at Lowes too! They had a lot nicer pots than the Lowes around here do.

Nice plant and nice pot, too!

Hey, I've posted pics with a coffee cup to give an idea of size ... I thought you were doing the same thing!

patticake, I think you must have gotten your red chid when the shipment had just come in. I've had to take back a few orchids to Loew's because I just didn't want to experience the heartache of purchasing a dying plant without being able to save it. I recently bought BLC Ports of Paradise 'Emerald Isle' with two live roots on the newest growth for $5.99. I think the best thing to do is to check Loew's every week or so because new shipments come in all the time. Enjoy your new baby. I was also lucky to get three Tolumnias that were out of bloom for $1 each. They're doing great. God luck on your next scavaging trip!

Slc Jewelbox 'Scheherazade' is a large growing Cattleya and can quickly fill a 6 inch pot

Be careful of buying these bags cats from the photos. The photo is only generic of the type of orchid not the exact plant. In general, I find the tags to be accurate.

Patti,
I am sooo happy for you. I looked up some pics of it and along with Jerry's photo,
I'm really envious of you. Now I HAVE to get one. Great buy and I can't wait to see
pics when it blooms.

Patti, That orchid is one I have been looking at for a while (like ten years) and wondering if I could find room for it. My chids are getting smaller by the minute, but it is still a gorgeous bloom. Hope it looks as pretty in your collection as pics I have seen--it will be a wonderful reminder of your trip

BTW, I found the "delete" button by accident. It is in the Manage Attachments section where you add the actual pictures to upload --in the same window that says "Browse"--just below that and to you right. Good luck

Patti, check Loew's about every two weeks for new shipments. I went yesterday and bout a purple catt. There were two plants in the pot. One has three growths and the other has two and is in the process of growing a third. They had just gotten the shipment in and had a number of red and yellow catts too. It's worth it to check out Loew's on a regular basis!

Thanks, Nancy! I took a day off from work today. I had a bad weekend, and needed to de-stress. I decided to go to our Local Lowes. They had the orange Catt. that I had seen at the Saratoga store, only this one is in good shape!
It's Pot. Hawaiian Thrill 'Paradise'. If the bloom looks like its picture, it will be really nice! The price was right, so we'll see.

Tobi, thanks for the show. Every single plant is beautiful.
Patti, I haven't seen that orange catt. in Baltimore but I'll keep my eyes open for it. I bought one of the larger ones and that's doing well. I expect it to bloom on it's next growth. The picture on the package was titled white with colored lip. The cross is Cattleya intermedia x BL Morning Glory. I can't wait to see what it will look like.

You sound like me Patti....lol!! We went to Myrtle beach a couple of years ago and I came home with 3 cacti and 1 orchid. I would have bought more if they were in better shape. We're going back up there in a few weeks so we'll see what I come home with this time
