What do I do with a seed capsule

I have a small white Phalaenopsis which seems to have a seed capsules growing on 2 of dying flowers. I've got a book about Orchids and it has a photo of a Phal seed pod but doesn't really say how long to wait before harvesting the seeds.

I attempted to cross a really pretty light pink Phal with my white one but the I couldn't get the pollen to stick. I assumed it wouldn't work. I must have done something right no?

Anyways, I am not sure what to do now. How long do I wait before harvesting the see? What do I do with the seed?

Any or all help would be appreciated.

Seeds need to be grown in sterile conditions. They are removed and placed in a laboratory flask with an agar solution and left until the plants are about 1 1/2 inches then removed to another sterile flask with less plant density or if large enough then potted.

It is not a simple process like growing tropical plants from seed. If you want to do it the instructions are too long to post here and you will have to search the INTERNET for the extensive instructions.

Hi Jerrymeola!
Your seed pod will be ready to pick in about 120 days from pollination of the flower--when time gets closer, look for swelling of the pod, turning brown, yellow, etc.-It's important to keep tabs on it very close, because one day it will open and the wind will blow the seed all away, after you pick the pod, place it in a new coffee filter and put in a clean mason jar--some orchid seeds have been germinated after years after picking--Norm
