What I found today...

I found this little beauty at Home Depot, it's a NoID, marked down in price bc one spike was broken, and the blooms are sort of fading. I also noticed a little growth on the one spike, and was wondering if it is a keiki. BTW it had THREE spikes, which I was amazed bc the leaves on it are not all that huge. Unfortunately one was broken. I've repotted, and the roots looked pretty darn good, just a few needed to be trimmed.

I just couldn't resist this one.

Haha, what a coincidence! I found 3 pretty phals today at Home Depot as well, small plants w/ 2 & 3 spikes. Good finds

pretty flowers. looks like you stumbled upon something good. surprised that your hd lets you buy a reduced price. ours doesn't and it makes me mad. i walked through yesterday and all the babies have what looks like aphids.

HD usually neglects them and when they start dying or are almost dead, they reduce the price.

Anyone have an opinion on that growth on the spike?

I would have snatched that up in a second, it's gorgeous.

I've never known leaves to grow on Phal spikes. I'll bet that's a kieki, sure looks like one.

Enjoy your beautiful orchid!

That's gorgeous! I would have bought it too! I'm a sucker for multi-colored flowers. I don't think what you have is a keiki. It looks to me like a confused little node that has become thickened and elongated. That said, I'd certainly leave it on the spike and see what happens!

Alright, I want some more opinions on what you all think that little growth is. I got 1 person that says keiki, and 1 that says confused node, lol. Come on opinions!

With complex Phal hybrids, which yours certainly is, small leaflets sometimes grow at the joints/nodes of the inflorescence. Sometimes they just stay a little rogue leaf, sometimes a keiki will sprout. You'll just have to wait and see what yours does.

So far no keiki, just a leaf. Keiki leaves don't wrap around the spike.
