| Hi Alex, What a lucky mom. Could you update your location in the user cp located in the left hand corner at the top of the page? If we know the area that you live we can give you better advice on what to do with your mom's plant. I recommend reading the culture sheet on your mom's Dend. here: AOS | Dendrobium

They take on the form of little birds, of lizards, of insects, a man, a woman, sometimes like a clown who excites our laughter. They represent the image of a lazy tortoise, a melancholy toad, an agile, ever-chattering monkey. Nature has formed orchid flowers in such a way that, unless they make us laugh, they surely excite our greatest admiration." Jacob Breynius Last edited by brookn; 05-12-2008 at 07:33 PM. |

| I meant to tell you your mom's orchid is the Phalaenanthe variety, which means it is what is considered a Phalaenopsis-type dendrobium. It's care is different than the nobile-type Dend. Also try the skewer method of watering. As it is the growing season for Dends, it will probably need to be watered more frequently. Skewer use for watering of orchids
