Outdoor Thermometer That Also Measures Humidity?

Did a search here for thermometer but didn't find much. I plan on purchasing an outdoor digital thermometer that also measures humidity levels but wanted to first see if anybody has any recommendations.

The one I'm currently considering is the Oregon Scientific BAR688HGA Wireless Weather Station with Temperature/Humidity Display and Self- Setting Atomic Clock, White.

I'm planning on setting up an experiment to see if the bromeliads in my outdoor orchid growing area significantly raise the humidity levels for the orchids.

Try radio Shack, they have a good min / max hygrometer which measure min and max temp and humidity. it has a probe which also gives you a second temperature, but not humidity.

I have one in my GH for temp and humidity and the probe is placed outside so I can keep an eye on ambient temperatures, then I can do a comparison to see by how much the GH is cooler in summer and warmer in winter than the outside ambient temps.

Here in Australia they are about $25.00, so I would say they compare other there.

Radio Shack also has a model that comes with a remote station, both of which measure temperature and humidity. The keep the highs and lows in memory until you reset. The unit will also accept a second and third remote (though I've been trying to get one and RS seems not to have them).

I've been charting temperature/humidity indoors, outdoors and on my growing porch for a couple of months. At the end of the year I'll have a much more grounded sense of what goes on in those places.

The one I had in the states, which I wish, wish, wish I still had (because they're nearly impossible to find here in Australia) I bought at a small nursery for I think less than $10. You needn't pay very much for an elaborate one.

Walmart has a large assortment of thermometers which also measure humidity. Indoor/Outdoor... wireless remote... Min/Max readings... you name it!

I got mine at walmart. I think it's a GE. It has indoor and outdoor wireless. I love it, I think it was around $15 or $20. It has been very helpful. Since the weather in Indiana was very warm yesterday and then very cold today I know how much heat I need or when to run a humidifier. It also helps me make sure I get lower nite time temps.

I spent a bit more and bought a La Crosse. More money, but on the plus side it consist of a home digital unit with an atomic clock. Temp. and humidity, of course, and the capability to expand to three remote units. And also a choice of setting by the user for recording minimum and maximum temperatures, by any of the sensors. Even capable of interfacing with you PC for a data log.

I have one unit in my greenhouse, one outside, and the home unit in the house. I can check temp/humidity from all locations by pushing a button.

Looks like you have found a good deal. I have an Oregon Scientific wireless I bought 5 years ago, the EMR963HG series, a home receiver unit, and 3 sending units, that do temp and humidity. It is still available, but sort of a back order thing, and more expensive for that.

BUT, there is a lesson to be learned from my experience with it. The sending units are particularly sensitive to any metal near by. I had trouble with these for 5 years, only to realize what the problem was when I put up insulation on my north wall that had foil in it. Sending units failed completely at that point because the radio waves couldn't penetrate the foil. Also, I have 2 units hanging in the GH, and the wires from hanging plants can't be too close to the units, or they interfere with transmission. Any time I have trouble with a sending unit, I rearrange its position relative to interior objects. I now have 4 sending units (2 alarmed) and a hardwired alarm. Think I'm ready for any GH problems.

I agree that you have to be careful about the sending unit locations. It's nice when they are working. Dbl chked and the unit at Charley's is $39 with all the afore mentioned capabilities; I'm unsure about the PC data log provisions, tho.

When shopping for temp/humidity stations, make sure that the remote station will give humidity readings as well. It was easy finding one with temp/hum inside - temp only outside, but having both was difficult to find.
