small second bloom

Hi everyone,

My pansy orchid has just rewarded with 4 (only) beautiful flowers!! I had this orchid for 1 year now and I am very happy that she is flowering again. But I am a bit disappointed... last year it was a such bloom. Like we say in french: elle me donne du fil a retordre. (basically: she is giving me some hard time)

But on the positve note, I can see some new healthy roots , so I may be on the right way now.

PS: it took me ages to crop this pic with my mac. I should say I am very novice with this beauty...

Wow! Tres joli! J'aime bien la couleur! Haha! Ca fait longtemps que je n'ai pas entendu cette expression: "elle me donne du fil a retordre"! Ca me fait penser a quand j'etais petite! Mon papa disait toujours ca!

I had a couple of Miltoniopsis when I first started my orchid hobby. Killed both of them
due to my lack of knowledge. I must say that it is very lovely and hopefully I will resume
my interest in growing them again. I always thought they had one of the most beautiful
patterns of all orchids and the scent is heavenly on alot of them. Great growing!!

Nice flowers Celcat. I saw a grower on the web that is based in Maui that breeds Miltoniopsis. If I had only known when we were there I would have loved to go visit his place. Maybe next time. I decided wherever I go on vacation, I'm going to research all the orchid nurseries beforehand so I don't miss out.

Tobi - I'm with you. My one and only Miltonia went to orchid heaven before I figured out what I was doing.

Beautiful! I love the color. My Miltoniopsis is STILL in bloom. Every morning it greets me with that wonderful lemony scent! I love it- I know that I'll be getting more down the road. I would love a dark one like yours!

LOL! Not bad! The last part is: "It's been a long time since I heard the expression: 'elle me donne du fil a retordre'! It reminds me of when I was little! My Dad used to say that all the time!"

Those blooms are beautiful Celcat. This is just a thought because of my recent questions but, maybe because of the fertilizing or not you gave (or didn't) has something to do with the fewer blooms than last year?

Pat yourself on the back - you're doing better than many of us. This is one genera that I still have problems with. I'm almost to the point of deciding I shouldn't even try to grow these and just admire them at shows and forum posts - yours are lovely. Thanks for sharing!

I just didn't not realize that miltoniopsis were so difficult to many of you. I am releived to know that I am not the only one
This orchid do not have scent but it has an impressive bloom. I like the miltoniopsis because of thier impressive bloom. The flowers are big too. But they are tricky. I bought another one 2 months ago because I thought the 1st one will not bloom again this year and could not wait that long.
Martine, me too I dont hear this expression anymore( not many french speaking around me). I only hear it in my head when I look that orchid .
Solay, I am adpoting your solution too. Now everytime I visit a different part of england, I check if there is an orchids nursery around.
Sandra, I think the main problem was the watering more than anything else. I should have another spike. But it dried off and then I had this 2d spike one month later which gave the 4 flowers. Maybe I should have given some fertiliser for bloom. But I am still learning on the fertiliser. Next year, I will try to give some fertiliser for bloom 2 or 3 months before the bloom is due. I should see if I get better result.

Have a good day and good growing

Thank you. I appreciate all your compliments. I am feeling quite pleased with myself now knowing that some of you find them difficult. Just a bit more than a year since I bought this orchid and was my first in this kind. And she is still alive and in bloom, hopefully she will flower like she did last year ... see the pic

Good day everyone,

This morning I had a lovely surprise when I was doing my round to check my orchids. I have noticed a very pleasant scent, very similar to the roses. And that scent came , at my great surprise from this little milto. I do not remember this orchid being a scented one. I do have two scented chids, but this was not one of them. So now, I do have 3 scented orchids sweet...
