Help for the roots

Hello everybody,

Just got a shipment from en Ebay seller in Germany and the plants are in a pretty bad state. They are ALL dehydrated and the leaves are not a pretty view either.

The worst is the Parishii (the little phal), which was mounted with very little sphagnum, with everything dry -- bark and mussel.

I read in other threads that some of you use some "magic potion" in order to help the plants in danger develop new roots. Can I have the recipe?

For now, I have 3 different types of fertilisers in the house, all balanced. Could they help or do I need something with an increased amount of nitrogen?

Tomorrow I'll replant all of them, hoping for the best. For the Parishii though... I need all the available luck and your precious help for the chemical part.

Thank you in advance,

Oana.

some time. The dry up is to induce flowering. So depend on how you see it. For Phalaenopsis
it is seldom withheld water to induce flowering. You might want to consider to contact your seller
to exchange for something better

A soak in a dilute solution of fertilizer and liquid rooting hormone or superthrive often helps give the plant a start.

Don't know if you can get the root hormone or superthrive where you are. Search for "propagation supplies" -- the kind of root hormone that is used for rooting cuttings. This usually comes in powder form, but is also available as a liquid or a gel.

If all you can get is powder, soak in a dilute fertilizer solution and then use the powder as directed.

However, I agree that the vendor shpuld replace any poor specimens with a higher quality plant.

Good luck

I don't know, I'm really disappointed right now. And seeing how he shipped things... They were all mixed up, 6 of them lost tags, all leaves are bent...

I honestly don't think he can offer anything better, I guess they're incapable of shipping things in a correct/protective manner.

I'm running a test -- buying stuff from different ebayers in order to see how I get the orchids and how they are kept. This way, I'll know who I should avoid for the future

Anyway, this one was treating them really badly. There should be an organization meant to protect orchids and plants in general, because the way he shipped those poor plants can be qualified as bad treatment inflicted to orchids!

Anyways, any word of the root liquid? I'll fight hard to save them all and then get them in bloom

Thank you,

Oana.

Hi OnicheK and welcome to the forum!

First off I'm sorry to hear about the conditions of your plant.

Here is the Revive Recipe:

Mix well 3/4 cups of granulated sugar, 1 finely crushed Centrum vitamin with minerals tablet, 1/2 teaspoon of epson salt, and 1 teaspoon of liquid dish detergent per gallon of water. Submerge your plant in this solution, pot & all in for 4 hours, then drain, Take a towel thats been wetted with this solution & wrung out until just moist, & wrap your plants in this moist towel over night in a warm (70-75 degrees)place. you'll find your plant revived by the next day! unwrap your plant, & run tempid water over the plant & planting mix well, to remove the residue sugar.

You can substitute with any multivitamin or use Superthrive.

I do suggest not using fertilizer now. The roots are dehydrated and probably damaged. To use fertilizer now will only stress the plant more and will surely destroy it. Do try and contact the vendor to let them know about the situation. The concern is that this was purchased in another country and with customs checks,,,,it probably wasn't the vendor's fault.

Thank you very much, Jenny!

I'll try to find out what the Epson salt is and where I can find it. Are you sure about the dish detergent though? Can I use any kind of liquid dish detergent? How does it help the plant?

OK, OK, I'll do it anyway, don't worry. It's just that I don't speak Orchidish yet, so I don't completely understand what they thrive for

Thank you and I'll let you know about how it went.

O.

The dish soap doesn't harm the plant at all. Some people use for different things like pest issues and such. I always heard to use it for pests by gently washing leaves and soaking mix and roots then rinsing well for pests. But I'm sure it helps with other things too maybe like washing salty stuff out or cleaning up.

OH I forgot!!!! Make sure that the dish soap is Phosphate free!!!! (Phosphates will kill plants and fish! )

My bad, I assume that everyone automatically uses phosphate free stuff, I forget that some areas still use this chemical in certain household products.
