Hello!!!
I think that my zygopetalum needs repotting. I'll try to upload a photo of it.
Does anyone have any idea what kind of potting mix i should use? I only have fir bark, should i mix it with something else??
Have a lovely weekend!!!

I would treat Zygos like oncidiums. They seem to like a little more moisture than you might think.

Your bark mix is commonly used on Zygos. I would not use a large bark that dries too fast. I have been coming to the opinion that I do not like large bark for anything. I try to stay with 1/2 inch bark or smaller for mature plants and 1/4" for young plants.

Hydroponic rocks can also be used if you water often enough.

Hello Jerry,
thank you for your response. I'm trying to understand if any potting mix like medium fir bark needs some dirt with it, or the potting mix is only barks without any dirt. I hope my question makes sense!!!
Have a good day!!!

Yes it does. Commercial wholesale orchid supply dealers sell many more mixes than pure bark. Growers often have their own formulas for each type of orchid.

A girl that works for me mixes peat moss and charcoal into all her Phals and puts coffee filters inside the pot to retain the mix. It is not something that I recommend but it works extremely well for her.

Mixing in things like peat moss or sphagnum moss retains water and the pot does not dry as fast. Adding Osmond or pulmise rock loosens the mixture allowing better drainage and air circulation by not allowing the mix to pack down.

Dirt does nothing for the orchid except cut off the necessary air supply. Sphagnum for moisture retention and small rock like pulmise for air at your best places to start.
