Den Kekei

My Den. Kekei is just about ready to be planted by itself. Should I cut it off with as little cane as possible or should I take a moderate amount of cane with it so its stable in the new planting medium
thanks
David

can you post a picture? Generally, i like to replant with the mother cane. They cope better.
Keiki alone is often slow

Personally, I avoid damaging the mother cane too much when removing keiki's. When the root system is sufficiently developed (>2" for most species) I twist the keiki around the axis of the join like a propeller until it breaks free. This breaks the keiki at a natural join and avoids cutting into the parent cane.
