phal pictures..can anyone help me?

I posted yesterday about a phal. that I am concerned about. The leaves look fine, and it is even flowering and has two subspikes starting. However, when I look into the pot, i see that one of the phals (it is two in one pot) seems tilted and almost completely out of the medium with very dry and dark roots. There are few that seem to be firm and green and I am hoping that those can help me save this plant. Here are some pictures. The first is of the flowers that are on the plant right now. The next three are several views of the roots on both plants. After that, the two subspikes that are starting. Can you tell me what I can do to either stop what is happening and help it or what I can do to make it better? Also, are there any special instructions on repotting phals? What do I do about roots that are gangly and seem to be growing every which way?

And..on an unrelated note, can someone tell me what this new grow on my dendrobium is going to be? (last picture)

Thanks!
Sarah

Probably time to depot your phals and examine all the roots and clean them up as needed. Depending upon what you find you may need to put them each in significantly smaller pots than the one they are currently in (if the roots are mostly gone). "IF" the roots are mostly gone, you would want to consider cutting your remaining spike activity at the base so that the plants can direct their energy into making new roots and keeping the leaf activity as healthy as possible.
Not sure from the pic, but the point you are noting on your dend might just be the next lateral growth along the media top - I have several dends that just keep sending up each new growth in about this location from the previous.
