Slc. Mem. Alvin Beggman is pregnant!

I crossed Pot. Love Call 'Sato" with Slc. Mem. Alvin Beggman Poem. I used the polinia from Love Call- and pollinated it on Alvin- I pollinated 3 blooms and left 1 without. I got 3 that took, and the one that I didn't pollinate, dried up and dropped. These are the 3 that took! The other one went bye- bye-!
The new blossoms are in the foreground! The seed-pods are in the background.(with dried blossoms on them)- I think that they'll be cool...

Thumbs up

That's neat! What will you do now? Will we see the babies grow? That is so cool. I love it.

Thanks Jenny & solay-!!

exasperatus- I haven't started looking yet. I have 2 large pods on a Dtps. but the cross was with a noid Phal., so I won't be doing anything with them. It was a case of I think I put this here-and boom, That one took off.
This is my first serious cross where I put some thought into what I was doing! Your step by step thread has been most helpful to me. Do you know where you are going to have yours flasked?

Arlene & tom... The other parent is in the post that I made of my new chids from the Rochester show.. It's blossom is bigger than the one pictured, and it's more orange. It has a fluffy wine colored lip. The seed parent has 4 blooms per stalk and yellow petals... The pollen parent has 2 blooms per stalk and orange-ish petals. I'm hoping for a nice combo of the 2!

when I emailed them for rates to receive 2 flasks back (apprx 50 plants) this was their reply;

Our charge is $15.00 to sow the seed, and we appreciate that
payment at the time we receive the seed/pod. Then it
usually takes 6-12 months before the seedlings are ready to
replate. The charge is $16.00 per replate (30 plants), and
is due before the plants are shipped. Depending on where
you are located, we try to hand deliver the flasks, if
possible. If not, we usually grow them to near deflasking
size prior to shipping. This would probably be 8-18
additional months. In the end, producing two replates would
cost $47.00 plus any shipping cost.

Update... I've been researching flasking labs.- They are all about the same as what exasperatus has stated. I have 3 pods doing nicely- So I may go to a couple of different labs.

Meyers does free flasking on species. I may go with them anyway for one of the pods. There are 5 more I'm looking at.- You would think I was looking for a hospital to give birth at!!!

I'll keep you all up- to- date. I'm concerned about the timing. There are charts to give aprox. ripening dates, but mine is a jumble of backgrounds. An Slc. x a Pot.- Hmmmm

Wow...I didn't realize it took that long for the flasking process. Good job to all who have the time, space, and patience!

Hey that's not bad I was thinking more like a hundred to a hundred plus dollar to have them flask for you.

Hey Patti, is this one that sheaths then blooms that season or later? I think I may have some empty sheaths but wasn't sure it the spike would grow later or accompanying the sheath growths.

Kortney, I bought it in bloom, and didn't pay attention! I don't know what to tell you! I DO want to let you know that it's actual name, (thanks to Kevin)i :

Sophrocattleya Memoria Alvin Begeman 'Poem'
It was mis-spelled on my tag.-

This is a picture of the capsules in the back when they first started swelling!
